Justice for Jar Jar!

Mystic Mock 28-12-2017 06:30 PM

I really liked Revenge Of The Sith, especially the part where
Spoiler:

Anakin kills the younglings
Attack Of The Clones was okay for me but it did have that godawful Romance between Anakin and Padme. And The Phantom Menace felt a little too kiddy in some places for me personally, but I did like the Pod Racing, and controversially Ja Ja Binks could be amusing sometimes despite being too childish in alot of other scenes.

Jamie89 28-12-2017 07:03 PM

I really liked The Phantom Menace :shame: It was my first Star Wars film though so I didn't know any better (and nowadays my excuse is nostalgia)
I actually don't think they're that bad, they're bad by comparison to the original trilogy and when you think of how great they could have been, but if they were just judged on their own merits I don't think they'd get nearly as much criticism. They do have a lot of faults though, Attack of the Clones especially has some of the most unbearable dialogue I've ever heard between Anakin and Padme. They have some good moments too though.

Revenge Of The Sith was great and it's probably my favourite star wars film, that may change once i re-watch them all as it's been ages.

#3 was good, #1 was ok. #2 was terrible.

Jordan. 28-12-2017 07:23 PM

I think questionale acting, bad dialogue and overuse of CGI are the biggest gripes amongst SW fans, however I don't think they're bad films they just lack the charm of the originals.

user104658 28-12-2017 07:48 PM

Yeah... they're not awful films. Not amazing but not awful. I think most of the hate comes from those who were fans of the originals before they came out, who felt that they didn't live up to the original films.

Calderyon 28-12-2017 07:53 PM

They were fine, just not great.

Iīd guess that the publicīs expectations of the films were much higher than what they received due to how long was past after Return of the Jedi. And they thought that because Lucas always wanted to make those films first before 4/5/6, but the technology wasnīt there, that he would make them much better than what they were.

Meaning people liked the original trilogy and thought that they were the best ever and thought that 1,2 and 3 would match them given how much they were hyped. But they didnīt match.

And Jar Jar was a **** character.

RileyH 28-12-2017 07:55 PM

revenge of the sith is the only one i've ever been able to properly sit through so by default it's my favorite

Calderyon 28-12-2017 08:02 PM

Revenge of the Sith was definitely best of the prequels.

Even Hayden (Christensen) did an OK job.

Locke. 28-12-2017 09:23 PM

The dialogue is absolutely horrific in the first 2, the acting is awful for the most part (Ewan McGregor, Liam Neeson and Natalie Portman aside), they waste one of the coolest villains in cinema by killing him in the 1st film, and the story just doesn't flow anywhere near as well as the original trilogy.

The third one isn't bad at all though, very enjoyable.

Jordan. 28-12-2017 09:44 PM

Maul could have definitely redeemed Attack of the Clones

Calderyon 28-12-2017 10:06 PM

Yeah, they did axe Darth Maul way too early. He fought against two jedi knights at the same time and almost successfully slayed them both.

He really should have escaped/survived Episode 1 and have the face-off against Obi-Wan at the end of Episode 2.

Oliver_W 03-01-2018 09:19 AM

I think now the disappointment has died down, most people agree they're not terrible, just not as good as the originals.

People whinge that George Lucas "ruined their childhood", but what about Jake Lloyd? He had hate thrown at him from (allegedly) grown men just for taking a role in a movie, what about his childhood?

MTVN 03-01-2018 05:02 PM

There is a lot wrong with them but there's a lot to like as well. I think the prequels are more ambitious than the originals - they cover a wider area, more characters, greater scope etc. - and so they do fall down at times but I've always found the world they explore more interesting than that in the original trilogy

Now I feel that Natalie Portman was one of the worst in the acting department. She acts much better in the Thor Films imo.

Morgan. 21-03-2018 09:20 AM

It's no time just the prequels, all the films are bad :)

Niamh. 21-03-2018 09:23 AM

I didn't mind them but Anakin was really annoying, more annoying than Jar Jar imo

Barry. 21-03-2018 10:18 AM

The prequels was good in parts. The first was fine, light fun and it has good characters. I loved clones, thought it was very good but was not liked by critics for some reason.

user104658 21-03-2018 12:16 PM

Giving it more thought... tbqfh prequel trilogy > new trilogy so far :worry:. New trilogy has had it's moments but a lot of it has been either frustrating or twee. Huge chunks of the last film were crap. Rey / Kylo Ren stuff was mostly good and should have made up more of the film. The X-wing sequence at the beginning was great... but... most of the Rebel stuff was crap. All of the Fin stuff was crap. The Luke stuff was a total let down. Leia suddenly flying through space using the force, having never used anything more than vague force-sensitivity in the past, was flat out daft.

awww I love the new ones but I agree Luke should have definitely played a bigger and better part. All the Ireland scenes though

Cal. 21-03-2018 12:55 PM

I thought 1 and 2 were really boring. Darth Maul was good though.

3 is amazing.

James 21-03-2018 01:29 PM

I liked the pod-race in Episode 1. One of the best scenes in Star Wars.

Niamh. 21-03-2018 01:30 PM

oh and Liam Neesan was in it so there's that :hee:
