Virgin Trains apologises for 'sexist' tweet

Virgin Trains has "apologised unreservedly" for a tweet which some social media users described as "sexist".

In response to a passenger complaint about being referred to as "honey", the official Virgin Trains East Coast Twitter account asked if she would "prefer 'pet' or 'love' next time".

Classy Virgin :joker:

Not very professional really, is it

I imagine there will be a few people in the boss's office this afternoon, explaining themselves.

Marsh. 02-01-2018 01:48 PM

I hate being called love and I'm a man.

Yes, Livia, a man. :smug:

That's it, honey.

I don't think it was sexist ('pet', 'love' I'd associate with men and women) but yeah it was very unprofessional if it was a response to a complaint, whether they thought the complaint was justified or not.

I see nothing wrong with friendly sayings like 'honey', 'love' or 'pet' it's actually quite nice imo

But then again I get called a bitch in work quite often so being called hun is a welcome change

DemolitionRed 02-01-2018 02:37 PM

I hate being called 'mate'. I work with a woman who uses that all the time :fist:

Cherie 02-01-2018 02:37 PM

someone with too much time on their hands, being called "honey" is hardly complaint worthy

complain about the 3.5% hike in fares if you want something to moan about

Yeah but 'bitch' can be endearing if its said by the right person.
What about 'luv'?

Yeah it's not said with endearment it's said out of anger because I am a young girl ID'ing people older than me for alcohol and cigarettes.

My fault they're stupid enough to come out without, apparently...

Firewire 02-01-2018 03:20 PM

It depends in the context “honey” was used.

How do we know if the advisor is male or female?
