I have a big politic homework about UK ! Help !

Hi everyone,

As the title says, I have a big homework...about you ! Yes British people, I need you, and more than ever ! My politic teacher asked the class to make a paper about a politic topic. I picked a ball in a big box in order to know which question I will get and this one is about...local power and central power in United Kingdom !

Just could you explain to me, how does it work, the institutions and stuff like that.

Thanks guys !!! :spin2:

Could someone help me ? Please it's really important for me !!!

I'm not quite sure what that question means, I could understand if it was local power and main power, local would be like elected local councillors but central power .

I don't know anything about politics but you could try looking on wikipedia, that should give a better definition.

I found a big paper about the local power, but about the central power...:conf:

I don't get what you mean by local and central power. :conf:

local power and central power is how are organised the powers in UK. I've found a lot of things about the local one !

local power is where we elect a local group to represent us and run the county. Central government is where we elect a specific party to actually run the country!!

Local power is usually on like a town scale where each town chooses they way they want their government is going to be run, central power is where you get one group who runs the whole country

Also when we are voting for local it is a councillor who is a member of a specific party, when we vote in our general elections it is a MP (member of parliment) that we are voting for.

Voting in the local elections is not always a great refelction of which party will take the general elections as local councillors can build up great reputations even if they are part of a party that is not that popular which will make people vote for the person rather than the party.

I personally vote on a party basis based on party politics and promises, many others think oooh he looks lovely lets vote for him

So, If I understand what you said:
For the general elections, you vote for a member of parliment, which one will reprensent a party ?
And how does it work, what's their role, and what are they doing ?
Thank you for your help !

For a general election we are voting for a member of parliment who is from a specific polticial party.

MP's and their roles - I have found you a basic fact leaflet to use

http://www.parliament.uk/documents/u...MP_English.pdf

You could also look on here

Hope you find them a little helfpul
