USA: Deputy Shoots, kills Man That Rammed Into Him

Excellent shot and work by this heroic officer. Good to see member of public coming to his aid too. Another day another life threatening situation. Disgraceful this wasted court time.

A Bernalillo County Sheriff's deputy, trapped in his car after it was rammed by a man driving a pickup truck, shot and killed the man after he got out of his truck and approached the officer on August 4th 2014.

A lawsuit filed against a Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office deputy was tossed out by a judge Jan. 9, 2018. The judge said it was reasonable for the deputy to assume the suspect was attacking him rather than surrendering. Surveillance footage captured the shooting.

Bernalillo County is the most populous county in the U.S. state of New Mexico.

Sounds like the man was trying to abduct someone according to the article so I have no sympathy for him but the police officer should be done for excessive force, the man was surrendering and had his arms in the air before the police officer shot him. It would be difficult to construe anything he did when he got out of the car as potentially reaching for a weapon either. The officer fired before he had assessed the situation and he's lucky in this instance that the man he killed was in the process of committing a crime because the next one probably won't be.

Don't see how it's heroic to shot and kill someone when I assume they are trained to try to never do that unless completley necessary

Dezzy
USA is nothing like the UK

Never Attack a USA Police Officer.

So he was committing a crime, this chap? And he did ram the police car. He's not exactly a huge loss to humanity. I have more deserving causes to worry about.

Sometimes they get it right but so often they get it wrong. One wrong death is one too many.
