David Allen Turpin, 57, and Louise Anna Turpin, 49, were arrested on Sunday after
a 17-year-old emaciated girl escaped from their
house in Perris, about 70miles east of Los Angeles, and called police.]

[The couple have been charged with nine counts of torture and
10 counts of child endangerment, the Riverside County Sheriff's Office said.]

Oh I heard about this on the news earlier, horrific, those two should never be let out of prison

Disgusting and the oldest is 29,so has had 29 years of never being able to be free,some strange people about.

This is such a tragic story. Surely they attended school and if not, who was checking on their 'at-home' schoolwork?

I find the pictures odd. In every one they appear to be wearing matching outfits.

All I can say is, the girl who escaped is a hero. She's just saved herself and all her brothers and sisters from barbaric abuse. I just hope they can all heal from this.

They were home schooled and that is apparently unregulated. The authorities are not allowed to check on them, and the teachers are not required to have any qualifications :shocked:

They all look in good health in the pictures too but maybe they were built up for those pictures or the treatment only started afterwards? eventhough I'd find that hard to believe

Is it only me that is concerned that the youngest child may have been born to her sister?
Awful thought but going by her age it is a possibility.
Totally shocks me that any of this can go on in a built up area and no suspicions aroused.

That's what I was thinking. The mum would of been past her mid forties and whilst that's possible, its rare for a woman to conceive at that age.

Very strange circumstances. Neighbours have reported seeing the older kids driving and leaving the house so why was this not reported before now. Also pictures from last year at Disney and they all looked healthy. Thinking there is more to this than meets the eye.

Which means this could be a recent thing.

Which is even scarier considering how emaciated they are reported to be. I hope they get all the help and support they need and they are not too scarred by what they have been through

If the 17 year old looked like a 10 year old because of long term starvation, that surely means this must of been going on for a long time.

I've got a hunch that it was the older ones that were chained up. Perhaps some sort of sickness going on in the parents minds where they couldn't bare them to grow up.

We will just have to wait and see but until then, there's going to be lots of assumptions.

...yeah I do think there is so much to this horrific situation that is not yet known...it’s being reported atm that there Is no indication of sexual abuse...it feels quite ‘cult’ -like to me..and maybe chaining them up was what they started to do when the older siblings become adults....but then if their aim had been to restrict all access to ‘the outside world’ to keep complete control over them...then the family outings as seen in the pictures doesn’t quite make sense, so all very odd...actively taking them out to be seen and then chaining them up at all other times..

...I read..(..I think it may have been CNN but I’m not sure..)..that the mother’s sister/their aunt stated how she hadn’t known about any of it.../...that, that wasn’t how her sister was brought up...that seems like a really odd thing to say, I mean that’s not a natural way for any family.../...maybe in a stressful time it was just the way she worded it, but it’s quite odd...and even though she hadn’t witnessed their being starved and chained as such...would she not have recognised their body differences in comparison to what the ages were...A 27yr old for instance more resembling a 17yr old, their neglection in physical appearance being immediate and so obvious with their rescue...I guess we don’t know yet that they are birth children to the couple, has that been established yet I wonder...

...13 children is such a huge number and all they’ve ever known../..their lives together, however horrific that life has been but they’ve had each other...so I hope they can stay together, that they’re not seperated through adoptions../..care etc...They wouldn’t all be eligible for adoption because of their ages but then also not emotionally capable of caring for younger siblings either...so just so much still ahead of them as well.../..just horrendous...

I need a 20/20 investigation special on this ASAP.

The oldest, a 29-year-old woman, weighed only 82lb according to Riverside County District Attorney Mike Hestrin. Authorities rescued the siblings and provided them with food, water and medical treatment. They discovered the 17-year-old had been planning her escape for two years.

Parents David Turpin, 56, and Louise Turpin, 49, who were arrested and detained, have pleaded not guilty to charges including multiple counts of torture, child abuse, dependent adult abuse and false imprisonment dating to 2010.

Mr Turpin, who worked as an engineer, also pleaded not guilty to performing a lewd act on a child under age 14. If convicted, they could face “about 94 years to life” jail according to Riverside County’s District Attorney’s Office. Each is held on $12m bail.

It has since been alleged the children were often starved and not allowed to use the toilet. Some did not understand the concept of a policeman or of medicine. They were regularly beaten and strangled for behaviours such as washing their hands above the wrist.

Poor children. Hopefully they will get the help and support required and after the investigation is complete, the parents get the sentence they deserve

This proves monsters do exist.
