Emma misgendering Shane

My God did India die for nothing?

Emma calling Shane J a she all night is an insult to people like India, she was right. Shane J's piss take of a woman is transphobic and Emma just confirmed it

Disgusting

i think everyone who watches drag race is used to calling her (ANY queen) a she, as that's the 'done thing' on drag race. everyone is labelled by her drag name + called she, not he.

i literally see no problem here / although hope india hated it

Gusto Brunt 27-01-2018 07:56 AM

I'm not sure what Shane thinks he/she is. Never mind Emma.

Morgan. 27-01-2018 08:00 AM

Shane is comfortable with either, however as most understand these people use male pronouns when going about everyday life but use female pronouns when dressed as their queen.

Underscore 27-01-2018 08:14 AM

It's really fine.

It's accepted in the drag culture that when you're in drag you're referred to as a "she"/queen and when you're not you're a "he".

well that is grand for those who watch drag race, meanwhile 99.999% of the population can actually get his gender right

BBUKAUSFAN 27-01-2018 08:19 AM

in emmas defense when the lives shows are on Shane is always Courtney thus why emma is most likely pronouncing as "She" because in that moment she is she.

I agree.

It's not that hard to grasp really is it.

Cherie 27-01-2018 08:45 AM

She referred to Shane J (not Courtney) several times as she last night which I think is what LT is referring to

Does it not support India’s point though? That drag causes confusion about whether “he” “she” is acceptable to people who are transgender? For trans people it’s clearly an important and sensitive issue. And if Shane is now seen as the expert on gender/trans issues...

Exactly lol and that’s why India reacts so negatively to drag queens

She sees it as them trivialising transgender issues, albeit maybe inadvertently. People will look at Shane and think it’s the same thing as India. Shane dresses up every now and then for fun, India spent 50 years believing she was in the wrong body (which is a worse feeling than you think, just look at transgender suicide rates)

Alf 27-01-2018 11:06 AM

She's way more transphobic than Ann is homophobic.

She should resign

Bluelight 27-01-2018 11:20 AM

If ShaneJ is cool about being called he/she whenever, that’s different from someone who is trans. Which ShaneJ isn’t. I think India did have a valid point that many people still see the two being connected, when actually they are very different. Trans people are not putting on a “show.” It’s their lives. I think to people like Ann and Rachel, they are one and the same. Which clearly is wrong.

His only hl of an entire series.

Robodog 27-01-2018 11:36 AM

Shane J : the first to moralise to others about gender portrayal and negative stereotyping

Then he turns himself into Courtney who is a complete cartoonish stereotype of a tarty female

So it's ok for SHANE to be stereotypical, just not others

Ok i get it......

I am sure I remember Shane saying early on that he prefers she when dressed as Courtney, and he as Shane. But he doesn't really care either way. So she was entirely accurate last night.

I found it odd how when the numbers were up it was all...to vote for ShaneOrCourtney

Crimson Dynamo 27-01-2018 03:26 PM

Its a mess and no wonder folk get muddled up

You had Emma calling him she and Andre calling him he is the same conversation

ridiculous, Emma just trying to get down wif the yoof

awful pandering

When I phoned they said 'you have voted for Shane J or Courtney' too and it wasn't quite odd :joker:
