Black Panther (12 February 2018)

https://static.wixstatic.com/media/a...5a7bc5~mv2.jpg

Comes out soon and deserves it's own thread. Directed by the awesome Ryan Coogler and stars include Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker, Daniel Kaluuya, Lupita Nyong’o, Letitia Wright, Andy Serkis, and Danai Gurira. Soundtrack by Kendrick Lamar and Ludwig Göransson.

The reaction to the screener was something else. Being tipped as the best Marvel movie and best comic book movie since The Dark Knight. Extra praise for how the Women were portrayed in the film and Michael B Jordan with perhaps the best performance as a Villain since the Late Heath Ledger's Joker.

Looking forward to this one, kind of getting abit tired of the usual avenger crew, they're getting a bit samey (as much as I enjoy them)

LukeB 05-02-2018 03:51 PM

I'm excited for this, It's getting good reviews too

ethanjames 05-02-2018 03:52 PM

im so ****ing excited

Brother Leon 16-02-2018 11:03 PM

Oh yeah. I watched it and loved it. Michael B Jordan spoke to me as a Western African struggling with identity for real. Actually almost made me shed a tear when he saw his father. The Women were amazing and all had their purpose. So glad Lupita wasn't the stereotypical girlfriend in a superhero movie.

Chadwick deserves all the success he's about to get. Truly great dude that's waited his time.

I'm seeing it on Sunday, really looking forward to it.

Hopefully find time to go once the kids are back to school next week... Wife even wants to come along to this one, and that's a major feat since she hasn't been interested in a Marvel film since the first Iron Man :joker:.

I agree... They should do an actual avengers (after infinity war double) that just features newer / tertiary avengers! Black Panther, Spider-man, Ant-Man, Dr Strange... For females they could have Scarlet Witch in a more prominent role and of course they'll have Captain Marvel by then. Could even throw Valkyrie from Thor into the mix.

I've also just realised that this hero line-up would kick the crap out of the original Avengers line up in a Civil War situation :joker:

Just come back from seeing it, I think it might be the best Marvel film yet.

It completely does away with a lot of the tropes that homogenize most Marvel films, the villain is excellent and well layered, the female characters are there to be more than the Hero's girlfriend and/or a damsel in distress and Black Panther himself is a refreshing change from the sarcastic 'witty' one liners machines that most Marvel heroes are. I loved the fact that this film had a real message to it as well, the only bad part of the film for me was Martin Freeman's character who, like in Civil War, was completely pointless here and only served to ease the suits and certain closed minded white people's concerns about an all black superhero film.

It's a 9/10 otherwise.

Loved it as well, it really is totally different to all the other Marvel films (not that I don't enjoy those as well but they were getting very samey for me) Excellent female characters aswell, good job

I dunno, I feel like with it being quite different to the other films they also probably felt the need to include a "thread" linking Black Panther back to the wider MCU... given that he's going to be in Infinity War pretty soon. Though based on what I remember of the trailer for that, it seems like Cap is hiding in Wakanda somewhere? And we know that Winter Soldier is there in stasis. But still, they were probably trying to fit in little connections..

If you pause it at just the right second, it says "bugger off Alf this film is for young, hip people not you". :omgno:

Niamh. 19-02-2018 09:24 AM

Also you have to have a token white person in a black film, they've had to put up with being tokens for long enough

Not forgetting of course Andy Serkis is white

I think Andy Serkis serves as a thread well enough since there's an actual point to his character

I just kind of felt that Freeman's character was just the Studio panicking and being all like 'We can't have the only white character in this film being a villain! Middle America would have seizures in the cinemas!'

spoilers but not really? Very vague spoilers.
Spoiler:

I think Martin Freeman, if he had to appear, should have only done so in the South Korea set scenes. His role in the second half of the film and the climax could have easily been taken over by, say, someone like Angela Basset who sadly did not get that much to do.

I'm going to see this week, can't wait! x

Brother Leon 21-02-2018 01:09 AM

Only Star Wars:The Force Awakens has a higher 4 day opening than Black Panther :clap1:

This is unreal. I knew the movie would be great and it would do decent numbers, but I never saw this.

Oliver_W 24-02-2018 12:28 PM

Is it a good movie? Yep!
Does it deserve the insane amounts of politicisation and worship it's getting? Nope!

Tom4784 25-02-2018 12:45 PM

It's easily the second best Marvel film on reflection, I don't think it surpasses Winter Soldier but it comes close.

montblanc 25-02-2018 01:31 PM

i don't like superhero movies but i saw this last night & i loved it!

Brother Leon 11-03-2018 10:46 PM
