Donald Trump thinks not clapping for him is 'treasonous'

Donald Trump Said Democrats Who Didn't Clap Are Treasonous

Quote:

President Donald Trump said Democrats who did not clap during his first State of the Union address were “treasonous.”

Speaking at a Sheffer factory in Cincinnati Monday, Trump criticized Democratic lawmakers who did not stand and applaud during his State of the Union address last Tuesday, saying they gave off “bad energy” and calling them “un-American.”

“Somebody said treasonous,” he said. “I mean, yeah, I guess, why not. Can we call that treason? Why not?”

A White House spokesman said Tuesday that the remarks were “tongue-in-cheek.”

Trump called for bipartisan unity during his first State of the Union address, but many Democrats in the audience stayed seated and avoided clapping even on some noncontroversial subjects that would have typically prompted applause. Some said they found the calls disingenuous.

“You cannot reject bipartisan plans to improve health care and protect Dreamers or sow hate and division — and then turn around the next day and say you want to work together,” said Democratic Sen. Kamala Harris of California after the speech.

Read his full remarks on the State of the Union below:

“Did anybody happen to see the State of the Union address? So I got good marks. I said you have the lowest black unemployment in the history of our country. It was like … It was a game, you know it’s a game. They play games. They were told don’t even make a facial movement. And I’m talking about, you have the lowest Hispanic unemployment in the history of our country. This isn’t me, this is the charts, the polls. We have the lowest in the history of our country. Dead silence. Not a smile. In fact there was one guy when I said the lowest African-American unemployment, he was sort of clapping, like … Who was that guy? He was a nice guy. I think he was a reverend. I wouldn’t say it was exactly a rousing. but he was putting his hands together. I want to find out who he is. I’m going to send him a letter of thank you and he was probably severely reprimanded — don’t you think Rob, I think so — because he was the only one. So that means they would rather see Trump do badly, OK, then our country do well? That’s what it means. It’s very selfish. It got to a point where I really didn’t even want to look too much during the speech over to that side, because honestly it was bad energy. You know, it was bad energy. You’re up there, you’ve got half the room going totally crazy wild, they loved everything, they want to do something great for our country, and you have the other side even on positive news, really positive news like that, they were like death and un-American. Un-American. Somebody said treasonous. I mean, yeah, I guess, why not. Can we call that treason? Why not? I mean they certainly din’t seem to love our country very much.”

Sorry Ammi not too sympathetic with her - she got what she wanted from the ‘deal’ - money and prestige.

The actual thread title is

Donald Trump said, tongue in cheek, that he thinks not clapping for him is 'treasonous'

That way it wont trigger all the haterz

Ammi 07-02-2018 07:20 AM

...we ‘haterz’ like to be triggered though..and Trump loves us all and appreciates us all for that because he supports the gun laws that keeps those triggers so active and readily going...

She isn't American though [emoji14]

But yes the problem with this is that he's being disingenuous... He's extremely media conscious, he's less concerned with the general feeling in a room than he is with appearances. He would LOVE to make it mandatory to get excited and jump up and down and clap, so that he could say "Hey you know, I made my speech... I made my speech and, uh, everyone clapped. Everyone was clapping and standing up and getting excited, you know, because we're doing great things here. Really great, good things. And you can see that everyone supports that."

Tongue in cheek in the sense that he wouldn't actually make it literal, illegal treason. I don't think it's tongue in cheek in the sense of not actually thinking it. He clearly does consider it to be highly unpatriotic and causing deliberate damage to the country, and therefore verging on "moral treason".

You see this logic a lot. That not supporting the current government is treasonous, or that campaigning against an elected body is somehow undemocratic. Mostly from people who don't understand the political philosophy of democracy and think it's akin to "mob rule".

...yeah he could be pressing the button that would end the world..THAT BUTTON...and if he got enough tweets and applause etc of...go Donald, go, this is what we all need...he’d be thinking, wow what a great day this is, they all love me/..I’m amazing, which obviously I always knew I was...

....yeah she’s not American...he couldn’t get a clever American lady to marry him so he had to get one of those ‘dumb immigrant types’...those types he wouldn’t generally condone being in America, but there are a few exceptions that have to be made so he can have his adoration...(..actually her adoration is becoming less visibly obvious as it all unfolds these days..)...

Ammi 07-02-2018 07:49 AM

..it’s funny how he’s often referred to as ‘the Donald’ now as if it had elevated him to think of as ‘treason’, even in a joking way...there is no ‘the Elizabeth’, let alone ‘the Theresa’ or ‘the Jeremy’, if he were PM atm...well it could be funny if it wasn’t so scary as well, how he sees himself with his ego..

Forget this nonsense. What about the memo?

smudgie 07-02-2018 09:15 AM

The Donald wants The Clap.:joker:

To call it treasonous is a bit stupid, but when they reacted negatively to black unemployment going down, they're hardly the bright ones either.

Wouldn't it be boring if all political leaders were the same

Melania is honestly the best thing about this presidency tbh, she hates him just as much as the rest of us  Icon, rinsing him for his money and being blatant in how much she despises him :clap1: Get money, bitch!

The Donald saw that sign and glued the sunglasses to her face :worry:.

Also, apparently she sometimes isn't with him and they use a body double of her as a stand in?? Really bizarre.

Tom4784 07-02-2018 12:27 PM

It's because she doesn't live in the White House with him, I think. She's based in New York with their son. Ugh icon, using the presidency as an excuse to **** him off out of the family home for a couple of years :clap1:

Maru 07-02-2018 12:44 PM

Nah they live in the White House now. Can't remember when they moved in, but it's been a little bit
