Oh Brother, it's Branson

SIR Richard Branson is set to make a surprise guest appearance on Big Brother this summer.

The billionaire tycoon has been invited to drop into the famous spy-on-the-wall house as a special "thank you"; gift from TV bosses.

Branson's company Virgin Media took over sponsorship of the Channel 4 series when Carphone Warehouse dropped out.

They failed to renew their deal after being caught up in the Jade-Shilpa race row on Celebrity Big Brother back in January.

Now the producers have decided to give the 56- year-old Virgin businessman the ultimate present - the chance to go on to the reality TV show.

A show source said:"What better way to show how pleased we are having him as Big Brother sponsor than by having him on the show?"

"We are planning to have Richard give the contestants a task" probably something business related.

"He will stay the day seeing them do the challenge and return 24 hours later to reveal who the winner is. And he'll hand them a special reward.";

Big Brother chiefs have tried to bag Branson in the past.

When the first series of Celebrity Big Brother was launched in 2000 for Comic Relief, he was among the star-studded names being touted for the show.

Executive producer Ruth Wrigley admitted: "I agreed to do Celebrity Big Brother after a conversation with Comic Relief creator Richard Curtis on the basis that he delivered A-list celebrities."

"We were promised Richard Branson, Dawn French and Chris Evans. But, sadly, one by one they dropped out."

Now Branson looks set to finally make an appearance.

Big Brother has usually steered clear of having celebrity guests in the UK - although in the Celebrity version in 2006 veteran DJ Jimmy Savile made an appearance.

However, the "ban"; didn't apply abroad. Status Quo played a gig on BB in Norway and TV chef Ainsley Harriott popped up in Africa's BB.

You probably did the same story has been posted three times by different members because they didn't check if it already existsed and then the whole merged thread ended up in the Lounge. The Lounge Thread is so big it is impossible to cut it out again.

So here we go again.

Sorry about that.

Okay this is interesting, seems like the fundermental rule is out of the window, 'no contact with the outside world'

I would guess they would brief Richard Branson about what he can and can't say while he is in the house.

And it not the only time they have had house guests in the house in the big brother format, it has happened a couple of times in the Celebrity version of the show.
