The Sun can reveal the current tenth series of Benidorm will be the last amid falling ratings.

But creator Derren Litten is already working on a new sitcom — this time for the BBC — set in a karaoke bar in the traditional North Yorkshire holiday resort.

A TV source said: “Benidorm has been a huge success for ITV for a decade, but bosses feel it’s run its course.

“The ratings have started to drop off and a number of the fan favourites have left, so it just feels as though the time is right to let it go out while it’s still on a high.

“It has been ITV’s longest running comedy, which is a real achievement.”

But a disappointing 4.3 million fans tuned in for this week’s series opener — a 400,000 drop on last year’s launch.

A source said: “It’s like the first casualty of Brexit — Benidorm has relocated to Scarborough.”

An ITV spokesman said of Benidorm: “No decision has been made about a further series.”

I haven't even seen the new one yet. I guess it's definitely not as good as the first few seasons but still :(

But it use to do more then double that.

It is perfect to end it on its 10th anniversary just a shame they didnt bring back classic characters

Derren continually denies that stories like this are true on Twitter, but the fact they're not filming this year is a bit suspect (but then they do have the tour so...)

Unless he wrote the last episode of this series with an ending in mind I can't imagine ITV not allowing them to wrap it up properly, particularly after airing a celebratory 10 year documentary about it. Maybe having a year off will do the show some good

TBH I'm surprised it's lasted this long !!! :shocked::joker: , 10 series is a long time .
I wouldn't say it's laugh out loud but there's still funny moments with it .

I'm not sure about this new Scarborough one though hmm .

Enjoyed an episode last year at some point. Tried to get into it later on NETFLIX but couldn't, it's not really for me.

That new show sounds like the ideal place for him to repeat his old Benidorm material so he's probably not too bothered.
