Toys R Us closing all UK stores

An other well known name leaving the retail parks, my boys used to love it

I've never understood how they managed to stay in business. They were overpriced and I'd never seen a lot of people in their shops?... we used to go in for collector's edition stuff. For example, the Christmas barbies... my grandmother fought a mob to get those

I'll miss the adverts at Christmas. :(

As my childhood went on Toys R Us just became less and less appealing. For me there was just a lot less on offer for twice the price as my childhood continued. When I last went maybe 2 years ago it was just the dullest thing ever and the range was appalling. When we did find what we wanted (we were looking for board games I think) we found the perfect one but it was twice the price of anything we found in other shops.

Just so expensive I remember when they use to sell Top Trumps for a fiver yet you could get them for a couple of quid elsewhere

The model of large warehouse type stores outside town centres stopped working for them really, those sort of places don't offer great shopping experiences and they're not attractive destinations. They didn't really make any effort to change over the last twenty years either.

Maybe kids are growing out of toys faster now, and want phones, tablets, computers etc. ?
|
i remember buying toys for kids there when it was a new experience 30+ years ago. At that time it was great, there was nowhere else like it and everything was available in one shop. Move forward 20 years where there is more choice, people can order their toys online with no special trips necessary and can search out the best prices. Toys R Us have been on borrowed time for at least 10 years and did nothing to change their business model and move with the times. It's amazing it kept going as long as it did.

Sad times. Memories of the one next to Brent Cross exist for many Londoners I’m sure :(
|
Like Blockbuster, they couldn't keep up with market changes and adjust themselves, too confident in the brand and they lost.

Like Rob said, I’ll miss the adverts :( but it isn’t the end for them as a business. C&A is massive outside the UK

Omg I forgot about that
