i would replace it with just a News section where stories are posted and they can be discussed but it’s not like random threads where they’re like ‘I hate women, discuss?’ where it just delves into a mess

And let's not pretend getting rid of the debates section will suddenly eradicate all of the sniping that goes on. There's plenty in the chat area too which makes me feel less motivated to post there at times (one big problem on here is people using the chat thread to bitch about a confrontation they just had in another section, or even worse, about something they weren't even involved in).

I don't really use SN&D much and it definitely has its issues but I think it's definitely scapegoated a lot.

I also have an issue with the "use a politics forum" logic. Most forums I've seen have various sections far beyond the main area it was designed around and a section for news and serious discussions seems like a standard one. And if we were to get rid of sections because they're apparently irrelevant to Big Brother, Serious Debates certainly wouldn't be the only one to go.

An honest and reasoned post, there has been a lot of finger pointing going on, people in glass houses spring to mind, we are trying to address the problems in SD which are not all about bans btw, and hopefully it will be resolved so everyone is happy.

Withano 07-04-2018 10:54 AM

The issue is, people go on to the threads, take no interest in the topic, read through it a bit, see its turned in to a bit of a fight, and join in with the fighting/defending the ones fighting.

Its a new-ish issue. This thread was first made back when the main issue was that the subforum had tens of very similar threads by the same people, and the large bulk of the convos there was along the lines of “FREEDOM OF SPEECH U SNOWFLAKE” but thats not really a thing anymore. Its steadily improving imo.

A politics subforum as well as a SD&N subforum. But i floated that idea when (genuinely) about 70% of the forum was about Corbyn.

Its a bit less relevant now, but I still think breaking that forum into two different elements would help.

Scarlett. 07-04-2018 11:02 AM

I think news should be completely seperated from serious debates, like it used to be.

Jordan. 07-04-2018 11:53 AM

Put it in a social group of something, no one joins a low brow reality tv forum for a serious debate .

This forum is definitely more entertainment centred being a forum for Big Brother and other shows so I really don't see the need for a debating section.

That's just my two cents.

:clap1:

Literally no one joins this forum because of that section, it adds nothing to the site. I don't know why the admin/mods put themself through the drama of keeping it.

i was being hyperbolic sis but go off

T* 07-04-2018 12:06 PM

and here, im not causing drama/taking issue with the thread but it’s an example of a thread that asks a question for a debate, they do exist unlike what you said http://www.thisisbigbrother.com/foru...d.php?t=336827

Fetch The Bolt Cutters 07-04-2018 12:09 PM

i still think it needs to be axed bc i have it on ignore so it’s obviously not needed? if it was that important i would post in there all the time bc i’m the best member on the site

Greg! 07-04-2018 12:10 PM

No keep it I like it for the mess

That is not quite the same as I hate women, discuss,I didn't post in that particular topic, but if a forum member deems it worthy of discussing, so what? it seems to me there are a lot of people who never engage on that particular forum who have quite a lot to say about it, but they hate drama!

The nature of Debate is that people will argue their opinions, it's not called Serious Tea Party

this, for example, would need to be seriously debated

Kazanne 07-04-2018 12:40 PM

Why should it be culled ? most people calling for that don't even go in there.sometimes it's nice to have some adult talk, and threads with long posts and substance people don't have to come in there if they don't want to, I don't go in threads that don't interest me, I have also learnt a few things from SD,so no just because a few don't like it ,it shouldn't be spoilt for the ones that do,The forum would actually be a boring place off season if not for SD.

i wanted to post more on SD because i wanted to show my serious side as well on here, but now this recent drama has put me off that part of the forum a bit

LeatherTrumpet 07-04-2018 12:49 PM

To be serious here for a moment I can understand why the young members dont like or understand it. I remember hating my dad watching the news when I was small as it was "boring"

I think once you have lived for a while and you have a house maybe some kids and a job "news" becomes more interesting as do politics - its roughly when you realise that people in power are actually total clueless dickeads just like yourself and it all gets a bit worrying

So younger members dont worry about SD as it will become more alluring when you get older.

:)

the only problem I have with it is that it pops up in my sidebar even on ignore and the cliqueism which is arguably the worse on here
there is a point about the forum being a reality tv/pop culture forum, it is juxtaposed onto here and it tries to make out it’s all serious but it ends up looking like a house of commons sat in the middle of a pride parade lmao

Really, how does that work?

I dont get how you have so much to say about it when you have never made a thread in it or voiced an opinion there? Fear can lead to resentment and the way to conquer that fear is to take part?

Withano 07-04-2018 02:00 PM

Can I just say real quick that this whole ‘well you dont contribute to it, so what would you know’ thing a few of you have going on is bollocks

I barely ever post in the private forum, or the music forum, but I have a good understanding of the types of conversation that go on there, and the type of tone they have.

Not being part of the problem doesnt make you unqualified to discuss it

that is nonsense as both those forums are self explanatory and have zero to do with the real life topics on SD such as politics, abortion, rape etc

the point stands and unless people participate and make threads i cant see how an opinion, other than one of prejudice, be properly formed

join in and then form a view

otherwise, stay in your lane

The thread topic is ‘do you want to see the subforum axed’, you, Kaz, and Livia all decided that when it comes to this topic, only the ones who participate may form an opinion. Bollocks.

I’d argue its the opposite of this if anything, if people are actively avoiding the subforum for any reason, their perspective is just as relevant as yours. If not, more so.

(Obviously its not gonna be axed, its a discussion on a hypothetical, get off your high horse! You dont own imaginary scenarios).

Have you ever seen a member of SD go in to the chat thread when there is an issue and start posting what they can and can't do in there, the chat threads have been closed many times, I have never made it my business to get involved, and neither has anyone else from SD that doesn't post in their regularly, I have no interest, there seems to be massive interest in getting SD shut down, why is that ?

Seriously though a lot of this I'm afraid to post my opinions in SD as it is too intimidating is utter claptrap! Arista is lovely

My advice stays, get involved and form an opinion, if not ignore.

I dont play any of the "games" on this site and frankly if they all stopped i could care less, but i know people like them and i know sometimes they cause drama

but I would never slate them or call for them to be axed.
