If ageing was 'cured'
Do you think it would be a good thing?
This man is developing therapies "that will repair the damage that the body does to itself throughout life. He believes that ageing can be treated as a disease that can be cured." And he thinks that his treatments will enable people living today to live past 1000 years old  http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/technol...urable-disease He actually makes some good points for it imo in terms of morality. |
Aubrey de grey.....lol..parmy checks date...nope its not the 1st yet...i will read it now....ps.

I don't think the earth could sustain all the people if we lived to 1000, unless no one was allowed have kids. It would probably end up being only the rich and powerful allowed have them or some s**t

No.
Just where are all these old fogies meant to live, where is all the money coming from to keep them..and us? The planet is far too small for us to live to that age. I would be all for a cure for arthritis so that the elderly could have a better quality of life, spend the cash on that rather than living to some ridiculous age. |
there is no reason why we shouldn't start colonising other planets. Go forth and multiply I say :cheer2:

Actually this. |
It would inevitably be something that would only be available to the richest of people if this was a thing. Kinda like an Altered Carbon sort of deal. I'd definitely go for it, if given the choice.

I think I would be in favour of it, the only thing that I'd worry about is how we'd all survive if it was something that happened soon. But then that's not a reason to prevent elderly people receiving medical treatment  So I don't know. And it's not as though it's an immortality thing, people would still die.

How many people die of old age ... its really not that many

I read a really good book about this kind of thing once written for the young adult market where people took a pill and just lived on and on though they did still age physically in a way sort of dried out. Because it wasn't sustainable you weren't allowed to have children and any children born were called surplus and put in insritutions. It painted a dark and horrible picture of the idea.
|
The only way we could do this is to bar everyone from having kids.
I cannot think of anything worse than living forever, unless they also find a cure for my illness at the same time. |
