A Quiet Place

It's gotten a rave reception so far and it's out next week. I think I might go see it tbh.

Amy Jade 31-03-2018 08:04 PM

Saw it yesterday in a secret screening and it's brilliant. Best horror of 2018 and I can't see it being beaten unless Hereditary or Halloween are stunning.

Emily Blunt should get an oscar nod to be honest.

Barry. 31-03-2018 08:08 PM

Looks amazing and scary.

Withano 31-03-2018 09:52 PM

I genuinely thought you made a safe space thread, and I was excited for the ironic drama in all honesty.

Withano 31-03-2018 09:54 PM

Film looks good, I love **** like that.

Jake. 07-04-2018 01:03 PM

The reviews for this are amazing

Oscars snub Horror Films.

I haven't seen the Film though tbf so I don't know if they'll be right to do that or not.

Tbf with, thought this thread upon first looking at it referred to the state of this forum...

Babayaro. 07-04-2018 01:15 PM

I want to see it but I sort of don't have anyone to go with?

My point being that Horror Films have to work four times as hard as any other genre to get an Oscar nomination.

I mean look how many average Drama Films about a man and a woman that fall in love that get nominated every year.

Smithy 07-04-2018 01:32 PM

Also, wouldn’t really call it a horror, much more of a thriller

It's honestly kind of liberating? I used to wait for films to come out on DVD and such if I couldn't find anyone else to go with but now I just go by myself during the day and it's marvellous because I basically get the cinema to myself.

 I'll consider it tbh

I was going to see Alien: Covenant on my own but I'm glad I didn't as it was pretty crap when I watched it at home.

Nah, it's just most horror films simply aren't that good. The genre's just had a bit of a renaissance in recent years since they've decided to do put effort into quite a few of them when before most horrors were thrown together because they are nearly always profitable whether they are good or not.

Get Out, IT and the Babadook have done a lot to revitalise the genre beyond the 'throw a bunch of pretty faces in front of the camera and throw gore at them' approach.

Those drama films get nominated because they are well made, well crafted pieces of cinema for the most part. Saw Part 53 simply doesn't cut it.

Be a strong independent woman that don't need no man to go to the cinema with.

I don’t think I’d find it enjoyable haha. I’d much rather wait four months and find a dodgy hyperlink. (I’m not a huge cinema guy anyway, three times a year at most).
