Do you tip?

Do you leave tips at a restaurant, cafe etc?

I give tips when we eat out, if we phone a takeaway I tip the delivery guy/girl, I tip the taxi driver if i use one, if we have furniture delivered I tip the delivery guy, tip my hair dresser, nail technician etc etc

montblanc 25-04-2018 06:10 PM

yes

my conscience wouldn't let me not tip

Firewire 25-04-2018 06:14 PM

Most of the time

Calderyon 25-04-2018 06:21 PM

Tip is a taxable income here, so people do not do it.

I also do not think itīs very customary here. Apart from restaurants before, but not now.

In short no. Also i rarely carry cash with me.

Always, and I tend to tip fairly high if I can. I put myself in their shoes... I rely on my clients too and their willingness to pay their note, and so I think that it is good to pay it forward whenever possible, because we all need a little bit of help every now and then... everyone can always benefit from having a little bit more money and I know it motivates them... words are nice too, but they can reinvest that money in their business, help with transportation costs, etc...

No I'm a student going out to eat in the first place is enough of a dent in my budget.

Alf 25-04-2018 06:49 PM

I chip in for the whip round for the driver on a coach trip, but that's about it. It's not expected in the sort of places I dine in.

Not in London unless the service is exceptionally good. Most restaurants here add a 12.5% service charge anyway.

I usually do when I'm abroad though.

I used to tip my barber occasionally but then they went and increased the price so I haven't tipped since.

RileyH 25-04-2018 06:56 PM

no

Smithy 25-04-2018 07:11 PM

No, I really dont get it, in any other customer facing role, such as retail, you work just as hard, give just as good customer service and don’t get tipped, I don’t get why restaurant workers do?

I think the only time I’ve tipped is when I’ve let the taxi driver keep the change cause I’m busting for a piss and cba waiting for it

Vicky. 25-04-2018 07:21 PM

No.

I do when we go on holiday though as I know many places pay their staff peanuts so they tend to rely on tips. Here though? We have minimum wage. Though I do tip sometimes if the server is seriously lovely or very helpful.

Oddly enough, I do tend to tip taxi drivers though. But thats more for convenience than to tip as such.

Babayaro. 25-04-2018 07:25 PM

Very rarely

Amy Jade 25-04-2018 08:43 PM

I do. Never on a card though, you know in like Frankie and Bennys it will offer a tip? I'll get money out of my bag to give the server.

In American though yeah I tip. Last time I went we had been to Dennys 3 times late at night and the same girl served us every night and she was so nice, she used to talk to us and give us our drinks before the meal was done and refil us before we left so we pooled our money togetger on the last night and gave her $65 and she was almost crying

Marsh. 25-04-2018 09:06 PM

Yes, kind of. I tell them to keep the change and I always put a quid in the tip jar at the barbers and stuff.
