Watchdog reports: you can't recycle pizza boxes

i saw this on watchdog live last night

empty pizza boxes (who have heavy greasy stains in them) can't be recycled cause the greasy stain can't be cleaned

it is better to throw them with the regular garbage

Yes you would have to wash the
Food stain off that card ,first.

Or cut the non food stained card off

Yes he was better with his own show
but his scandal will a illegal worker - fecked that UP,
in that Live show his recorded bits are saved to the end
so he shows a clip and says come back later for the rest

Contaminated ?

smudgie 03-05-2018 05:56 PM

Flog them as firelighters.:hehe:

Barry. 03-05-2018 06:01 PM

I didn’t know this, good info Nicky.

Maru 03-05-2018 08:30 PM

Anything with food contamination can't be recycled... they can clean plastic, glass, etc, to a degree but things like paper, it's too contaminated to be reused. It depends too on whoever does the recycling and the machinery they have obviously, whether it is something they accept.

Since when did garbage disposal become a full-time ****ing job?

By the time I've sorted it I'm so late for work the place has ****ing closed.

hijaxers 03-05-2018 08:46 PM

I think most of the recycling is a con (i am very good myself) but i do think half the stuff i put out never gets recycled - do we ever find out , in my area we actually need a recycling truck going behind the 'recycling truck' to collect all the plastic bottles left in the road ! Nevermind they throw the black boxes everywhere, it really is dreadful.

Marsh. 03-05-2018 08:47 PM

Yeah, sometimes I think some of the stuff doesn't get recycled, just "disposed" into different areas so us sorting through saves them the job.

You have to sort your recycles? We have automatic recycling and they pick it up on the curb and to take it to a sorting facility... the downside is, they don't take glass in the trucks anymore in order to reduce weight (I guess to increase gas mileage)... most do take glass though and take it mixed.

The only time we had to sort our recyclables is when I have to take it in directly after Hurricane Harvey hit and pickup stopped for like a month or two... that was a real pain, because a lot of what I get, I recycle... but I do question how much actually gets through the process... still better than sending it all to the landfill though.

It gets collected, but you have to sort it into separate bags/boxes.

I wonder which method is better, what makes it to actual recycled material more easily

If it's machine-based, I always wondered if the employees just threw away what they thought might be an issue in the machine... like they won't take plastic bags, because supposedly they get stuck in the sorter. So I just take in to the grocery store.

We have separate food waste, cardboard, paper, cans and all plastic but no black, and it all has to be separate, cardboard has to be tied together not with any paper , and try getting a new box from council when some gits nicked yours.

tbqfh I throw all sorts into the recycling bin whether it has food on it or not; our green waste bins are only collected once every three weeks and it's overflowing by then already. So the blue bin will continue to have "contaminated boxes" in it, I'm afraid.

Marsh. 03-05-2018 09:24 PM

I have brown, green and black. TF is blue? :omgno:

We have green, blue, blue box, brown and grey

Blue (every 2 weeks)- cardboard, plastic and metal (cans / tins)

Blue box (weekly) - Glass and "small electrical goods" (kettles, toasters... though I once stuck a Henry Hoover in it :joker: )

Brown (random like every 4/5 weeks and not over winter) - Garden waste

Grey (weekly) - food waste

Green (every 3 weeks) - all other landfill crap

It's a ****ing military operation and means you need like 3 separate bins in the kitchen

Marsh. 03-05-2018 10:02 PM

Bloody hell we have different recycling containers but they all get collected together.

Then general waste and garden waste on a separate collection.

I imagine the pests really enjoy that. That would be a nightmare here with our tropical climate and high humidity... woo hoo year-round pest control :skull::skull::skull:

We get trash pickup every week and recycle is picked up every two weeks. They're both 96 gallon containers. It's unique to the city though. The pickup was similar in other places we've lived. My grandmother is outside the city limits a third party company and they allow mixed recycle (including glass).

My recycle is usually at or a little bit overfull by the end of two weeks (a significant portion are Amazon delivery boxes) and we don't really tax the trash all that much. But it's just me and the husband and pets, and we try not to waste food.

If it's heavy trash (like used furniture, dead TVs, large scrap, etc), we take it in directly or we have to time removal every two months... heavy trash alterantves between tree waste and junk waste... I take everything that works to Good Will or put in clothing box if it's clothes, etc... and I take used electronics to a computer recycling outfit if it still works or recycle computer parts for other people's machines when they ask me to fix them...

There is no sense in taking dead electronics to their specific facility. I read here, they sit in a warehouse or just remain in a facility indefinitely... kind of like our used nuclear rods :skull:...

I've never had one stolen, but they've repaired one of our cans (the bar broke off where the truck has to lift it)... took them a week or so, we had to keep it empty at the curb...

I keep a big round thick plastic bin that has ropes on the ends so that we can carry, that I drilled holes in and we keep outside... the rain helps to wash the plastics, weigh down cardboard, etc  They explicitly state they'll take wet paper/cardboard, that moisture is not as much of an issue as food contaminate...

There are HUGE problems with ants and wasps in summer. And often maggots if you lift the bags up D:.

Rats etc. aren't much of an issue here but if the lid is open even a bit then the foxes will get in. We usually end up just taking excess bags to the dump ourselves. Or I take them to work and sneak them in the massive ones out the back that belong to the chinese take away next door .

My neighbors across the street have a lot of free-roaming cats which she kepts fed (they're all fixed). But I don't think enough... because I've yet to see a rat since we've moved to this block

Sometimes a raccoon or stray dog have knocked over some of our cans before... but I'll take that over little critters any day of the year.

Nicky91 04-05-2018 07:15 AM

we in holland have green/grey and paper

the one week they clean grey bins, the other week green bins, and between all that paper/cardboard garbage
