Favourite year for music in the 2000s?
Multiple choice.
2002-2004 and 2007 for me. The 2000s were really interesting for music in general... 2002-2004 because of the general sound that was present during that time. R&B was at its finest... 2007 probably because I was 12 and finding my place in the world, and that year screams nostalgia for me. The music was also edgy and cool, people actually took risks, which were not made in ‘05 and ‘06... Don’t get me wrong 2000 and 2001 were also good, the Y2K/Futuristic vibe was cool but it eventually became tiring and repetitive... 2005 and 2006 were generally really dry and weak years for music, nothing really caught my eye, nobody dared step out of their comfort zone. 2008 was just ****e in general and the quality of music began dropping, it was the start of the decline. 2009 was actually kind of good. There were a lot of memorable songs, and probably nostalgia as well... Though the main reason why I didn’t vote for it was because of MJ’s death, which I still can’t come to terms with... |

2000, 2001, 2002 and 2009.

|
2000 - 2002ish for me.
|
2009 was undoubtedly pop music at its peak, will it ever be topped?

I think the 00s in general was a very good time for music, with many of the big pop girls emerging throughout the decade. 2007 just about edges it for me, but 2009 was another gold standard year.

2009
|
Early 2000s for sure and then 2007 2008
|
2001-2004 was a period!
|
2001-2007 for me.
2000 was meh, 2008 was terrible, 2009 was decent. |
2006-2008
|
I’d say 2000 - 2006 was a good period.
2000 - 2002 for UK Garage 2000 - 2005 for Pop Punk (Blink 182, Sum 41 etc.) 2001 - 2006 for RnB/ Hip Hop And more... |
2001 had The Strokes' debut, Radiohead's Kid A, Daft Punk's Discovery, Muse's Origin of Symmetry, White Stripes' White Blood Cells, and I remember just loving my Now! CDs that year (Vanessa Carlton, Sisqo, Shaggy )
2006 was the summer I was sixteen so of course I remember it vividly, but hits-wise it was just an insane year... Hips Don't Lie, Mas Que Nada, SexyBack, I Don't Feel Like Dancin', Smile (Lily), Thunder in my Heart, Gnarls Barkley, Nelly Furtado was at her peak with Maneater/Promiscuous/Say It/All Good Things, Welcome to the Black Parade, Something Kinda Ooooh, Voodoo Child, Ain't No Other Man, Deja Vu, Irreplaceable, SOS, From Paris to Berlin... Voted 2007 as well because that was when I started looking outside of pop and whilst some of the acts I got into are/were still very "lite" it was the year Amy Winehouse came back with BTB, Arctic Monkeys released Favourite Worst Nightmare (my favourite of their albums), M.I.A.'s Kala is one of my top ten albums of all time, and there were other great albums from Kanye, Goldfrapp, Mika, Kate Nash, Bloc Party, The Enemy, Bat for Lashes, MGMT... It's hard to say any of these were bad years since they were all formative of my childhood/teenage years... but if I had to pick a worst, then probably 2008  club music was pretty bad when I turned 18, got so damn sick of hearing "Day n Nite" and "Infinity 2008". |
2007-2008
