CALLING ALL CHILDREN UNDER 10........

You know that moment when you are walking down the road just minding your own business being good. You pass a police officer and Daddy or Mummy says to you,

“Look out, behave or the Policeman will lock you away”

Well next time mummy or daddy do this you have authorisation from me to kick up a tantrum! Scream, shout and do your best to make a scene. Then turn to them and say

“The police are here to help, what do I do if I get lost or need help?”

Please remember mums, dads and carers, if you vilify police officers to the children in your charge simply for effect consider what are you doing to them.

Are they going to have the confidence in us later if they are offended against, groomed or abused? Are they going to come to us if they get lost in a busy town?

Are we really going to lock them away for walking down the road holding your hand? NO!

It saddens my colleagues and I when we hear this said to children. So as our friends in Chewin The Fat said.................'GONNAE NO DAE THAT!!!!!!!!'
:)

Its literally part of scottish childcare

"he yoo, behave yirsel or thon Po-lis will lock ye up and throw the key in the burn"

:worry:

I used to pick up the phone and say to largest girl LT "right, thats me calling the Naughty Police" and she would burst into tears

:joker:

Scottish kids are driving past the police giving them directions, like go a xxxx yourself.

Hmmmmm well, my daughter is 8 and I do make jokes about the police being "here to get her". She would still go up to them if she needed help. The reason being that despite being 8, she is not an idiot, and knows that I'm joking :umm2:.

So more important I think, is to say "Hey kids of all ages! Your parents word is not gospel."

Basically we should be teaching kids to be skeptical of the **** that anyone tells them, and to use their own common sense.

That got me caned more than once in Grammar for 'arguing' with teachers when they WERE wrong.

Our history teacher once referred to 'Red' - Native American - Indians as savages and spent half a lesson portraying 'Settlers' as a civilising influence etc.

I gave him a few 'Home Truths' - “They (The White Man) made us many promises, more than I can remember, but they kept only one; they promised to take our land, and they did.” Red Cloud etc - and he went berserk.

There's a difference between saying "they're here for you lol" when you hear a siren, and using the threat of police as a behaviour management tactic.
