Sharing food with neighbours during Ramadam

If you have neighbours who observe Ramadam, do they do this?

We have neigbours who do it every year

last night we had rice, a vegetarian and meat dish, pakoras, samosas and a platter of melon, grapes and strawberries

Eddie. 10-06-2018 10:29 AM

Nope because I’m not really close to my neighbours tbh...

MTVN 10-06-2018 10:34 AM

I doubt that there is anyone observing Ramadan within about 15 miles of me

We had turkish neighbours and they would always come over with the most delicious food, but my stepdad is also muslim so we would return the favour.

Cherie 10-06-2018 10:50 AM

Also when a new baby is born both the sikhs and muslims bring sweeties to the neigbours :hee:

Nicky91 10-06-2018 10:51 AM

no i never do this (because my parents hate muslims) :omgno:

Lostie! 10-06-2018 10:53 AM

My uncle and cousins sometimes do this with us for Eid, bringing round homemade rice and curry. Course nowadays I can't have any because they don't do vegetarian friendly but I used to love it

I'm out in the sticks a bit Cherie, just a small town where we live, the nearest biggest town to us is Shrewsbury or Telford, but they sound like lovely neighbours .

I work with a muslim who often brings in food for everyone at work when it comes to Eid. It's a lovely gesture and I do love the idea of Ramadam, It's such a nice well meaning holiday.

Both my nieghbours are african christians...so no...

But the music on a sunday is very uplifting.

We used to share food with my hispanic neighbors growing up... we would give them baked goods and pies... they would give us tamales but we would pay a neighbor to cook as she LOVED to cook... her daughter who used to be a childhood friend (younger than me) went into culinary... we always provided extra milk or sugar to each other when we run out of stuff when baking or making dinner, as my mother could not drive due to a major disability... our neighbor didnt have a vehicle during the day. My grandmother now has a chicken farm out in the county part of Houston... she will give some to neighbors and we all trade labor... it's so different up north, people are so fearful of others they dont go or play outside even... its so disconnected there. Here it is different where I live., we all look out for each other... we dont have any Muslims living near me, mainly Vietnamese, hispanic, black, african, etc.. its an immigrant city.

Do you? I really wouldn't fancy fasting all day, and then getting up at 4am to cook for 4 weeks

Unfortunately like all other holidays, it is beginning to suffer from commercialism with supermarkets devoting whole aisles to Ramadam Mubarak food items.

At Easter and Christmas I return the favour

They are Kaz, we living in a small close with just 14 houses so we all 'know' each other, but don't live in each others pockets.

I wouldn't do it since I love food but I love the focus on charity and doing good for others.
