Vote Leave BROKE electoral law - referred to the police

Quote:

Brexit campaign group Vote Leave has been fined £61,000 and referred to the police after an Electoral Commission probe said it broke electoral law.

The watchdog said it exceeded its £7m spending limit by funnelling £675,315 through pro-Brexit youth group BeLeave.

The founder of BeLeave, Darren Grimes, has been fined £20,000 and referred to the police, along with Vote Leave official David Halsall.
The result of the referendum was 51.9% for Leave and 48.1% for Remain. The UK is due to officially leave the European Union at 23:00 GMT on 29 March, 2019.

The referendum was not legally binding, merely "advisory," according to a Supreme Court judgement in December 2016 , so it can't be ordered to be re-run by a court - any decision to have a fresh referendum would have to be made by the government and Parliament would have to pass a referendum act.

Is anyone really surprised? It was always Brexit before Britain with some people

I'm sure a £61,000 fine will greatly affect the millionaire elites who lead the campaign. What a disgrace

Anyone could win by cheating. Us lefties would never consider it and now we’re all leaving the EU and going straight to hell.

LMFAO - This is not only further proof of the powers of those rich and powerful 'Remainers' who have a vested interest in thwarting Brexit but also an example of how deep into Government, The Executive, and Public Services their tendrils penetrate - not to mention the media.

Prime Minister David Cameron spent almost £10 MILLION pounds of TAX-PAYERS money producing and publishing his anti-Brexit Pamphlet of Lies and cynically timed its delivery to every household in the UK just a few days BEFORE the 'Official Campaign' started so that it could be legally argued that the £10 million did not count as campaign fund 'expenditure' when anyone with both brains and honesty KNEW full well that it was, indeed.

If only the 'Leave' campaign had had access to £10 million pounds of Tax-Payers hard-earned to spend on their campaign instead of relying on donations, but then again, you could bet your life that had this BEEN the case, that £10 million would DEFINITELY have been ruled by the 'powers-that-be' as Campaign Funds Expenditure.

Actually it's proof of Vote Leave breaking electoral law by funnelling £675,315 through pro-Brexit youth group BeLeave, but I hope that tin foil hat of yours is comfortable!

Do you think the elites behind the campaign should have been left poor by the fines?

Not necessarily, but the fine is far too low to have a significant impact on them

Beso 17-07-2018 07:28 PM

Umm, them not to break the law?

Tom4784 17-07-2018 07:34 PM

I'm not surprised. Certain Remain groups could be guilty of the same but there's no proof of such things and it's not what this thread is about.

To try to turn this thread into a stick to hit remainers with is a desperate reach. How truly blinkered one's view must be to simply not accept that this organisation was in the wrong just because of their political allegiance. It doesn't matter which side of the coin they fell on, they broke the law.

Well, no.

We know what life is like now, but we don't know what aspects of life are due to the EU, or what might go away without our membership. Both sides of the argument should have had their say, by pointing out the plusses of their own side.

bots 17-07-2018 08:00 PM

the rules are there for a reason. To ensure a fair vote, and they broke the rules. As I recall, the remain camp broke rules too although not to the same extent.

This is satire, right?

So they break electoral law and don't forget they also outed the guy who blew the whistle on them in the first place, endangering in his family in the process

Lovely bunch of people!

Jack_ 18-07-2018 03:37 AM

Oh and how could I forget the allegations that Nigel Farage deliberately made a statement saying he thought remain would win despite being privy to private polling showing otherwise, all in a bid to short the pound so his wealthy friends made a fortune gambling on the market

https://inews.co.uk/news/brexit/nige...s-short-pound/

And then this leaked photo of him looking delighted at the pound dropping on referendum night

https://images.archant.co.uk/image/p...$f$h$w=f8e78d2

Again, wonderful people!

jaxie 18-07-2018 05:41 AM

This seems very biased and one sided when you consider remain was spending taxpayers money on theirs. In fact vote remain did exactly the same thing as leave with more money and siphoned it into sub campaigns. So not really seeing the scandal here tbh.

Read an interesting article about it this morning actually.

The blatant hypocricy leaves a very bad taste in the mouth. Who are they trying to kid - themselves perhaps! It seems there are no lengths too low that the remain campaigners will not sink to to get their way.

smudgie 18-07-2018 07:42 AM

Just one of 37 investigations involving other people as well.
For me the news is why were they found guilty when they had already been cleared twice.
