EastEnders - finished show?

Anyone reckon there’s any hope for this show going forward or is it firmly rooted in terminal Brookside territory?

Marsh. 18-07-2018 04:28 PM

There is hope. Any show can be saved.

It's just a question of if the BBC will actually pull their finger out and even try. Because they're just leaving it to stagnate further.

Marsh. 18-07-2018 04:29 PM

Like Brookside could've been saved but channel 4 were no longer interested in it. They had Hollyoaks and shows like Big Brother were growing in popularity.

reece(: 18-07-2018 04:31 PM

It's casket ready

Greg! 18-07-2018 04:32 PM

It's still one of the BBC's biggest shows but they need to vastly improve it if they don't want it to tank

BBUK-Fan 18-07-2018 04:33 PM

It can defo be improved

Marsh. 18-07-2018 04:34 PM

EE will only rise when they do what is right and erase 2016 and 2017.

ethanjames 18-07-2018 04:36 PM

its still on?

Morgan. 18-07-2018 04:36 PM

I feel like it'll be YEARS before a major soap like Emmerdale, Corrie or EE will go off the air and when it does I'm fairly certain we would know months, maybe even a year, in advance.

I'm also 99% confident that Hollyoaks will go before any of the other 3.

Morgan. 18-07-2018 04:38 PM

I can't get into EE and my mum who's watched since being a child now only follows some stories and plans on slowly easing out. I think it's losing popularity but not enough for it to be unsalvagable and the next big stunt or event will probably see a rise in viewership again.

Nicky91 18-07-2018 04:38 PM

maybe it can be saved but as for recent years based on that it is doomed

Marsh. 18-07-2018 04:39 PM

EE rarely does stunts and when they do it doesn't raise the viewership at all.

Kazanne 18-07-2018 04:42 PM

I love EE,it's my favourite,ok sometimes it gets a bit staid, but then again so do them all, My fave soap was Brookside but when they constantly kept changing the times and days it was aired it was doomed as people couldn't keep up with it, I hated it when we lost the EE omnibus on a Sunday, I don't think it's ready to go yet.

Tbh once a TV Show starts to lose a lot of viewers you don't tend to get them back.

Shows such as Big Brother and The Walking Dead amongst many other shows have taught me that.

LukeB 18-07-2018 04:48 PM

Eastenders can be fixed and they have had some good episodes recently (Xmas episode/Kat's return/stabbing storyline/Shaki's funeral) but it gets messy in between. I love how Eastenders is the only soap who isn't obsessed with serial killers and killers though.

Jack_ 18-07-2018 06:14 PM

I don't watch but I saw some of the ratings recently, had no idea it was doing that badly :umm2:

Surely it can't be long (a couple of years, mind) until someone at the BBC thinks 'what is the point'?

Marsh. 18-07-2018 06:21 PM

Well the ratings have dropped but it's still one of the highest rated on the channel and it's consistently in the top 10 on iPlayer.

Jack_ 18-07-2018 06:22 PM

That's a fair point, ratings are down across the board these days. The other soaps figures didn't look great either really

Gstar 18-07-2018 06:22 PM

BBC aren’t interested anymore. Coronation Street are probably even worse but it will always be bigger because ITV are obsessed with it and always give it priority
