I have to say I love Jacob RM. I mentioned this in conversation to my friend and his husband and to my great surprise they're fans too. From what I'd read on here I thought anyone gay would be against him. Strange...

Crimson Dynamo 20-07-2018 12:15 PM

So his hypocrisy relating to abortion and his connection with Russians isn't of concern?

Nope.

He is anti-abortion. I'd rather know that up front. He's entitled to his opinion and his faith.

His investments, which presumably are quite widely spread considering how wealthy he is, are as much of a concern to me as your own portfolio, Bots.

So being completely anti abortion while selling drugs for abortion is fine, and having a major stake in a russian bank is ok? I see

Leaving the EU.

Maybe Allister Campbell
(New Labour mastermind of Invade Iraq)
current owner of the European sad paper
and did a LBC show
could phone in.
He could jump ahead of the public calls

He didn't personally sell drugs for abortion though, did he. He had shares in a drug company. Do you know which industries your own bank deals with? Probably not. He has a stake in a Russian bank? That hardly qualifies as "his connection with the Russians". I'd be shocked if very wealthy people knew about every investment that's made on their behalf. Bono owns a shopping centre in Lithuania... when questioned, he knew nothing about it.

I know exactly what I invest in, I get reports on what my investments are. Rees-Moog, being an MP is required to publish his interests so is perfectly aware of what his money is doing

That's true. And if he's publishing it, he's being up-front and open. I have no problem with his personal financial dealings.

I don't doubt you know where your investments are... but if you bank with one of the big banks, they will be dealing in areas you're not personally comfortable with. I don't see that as any different to investing in a drugs company that makes abortion drugs, amongst, presumably, a myriad of other drugs.

If people actually listen to him rather than getting all up in their grill about him, he actually talks a lot of sense. I saw him on daily politics once where people were trying to get a rise out of him and he was very polite. They always pull his Catholic religion and his views on abortion out and he explains his views and also explains that others are entitled to a different view. They were pushing him about changing abortion laws if he got any power and he pointed out that forcing his views on others would be wrong and it makes no sense to change laws like that unless there is a public demand. Seems like a sensible chap and very sincere when he said pushing his views on others would be very wrong. If only his critics were as generous to him.

I had a Russian ancestor does this put me on the naughty stair?

To be fair inspite of his views he doesn't promote changing abortions laws.

I totally respect a womans right to choose but would never personally have an abortion as I am not convinced we know about what sort of feeling or pain a terminated baby goes through and I could not do it. So I can see where he is coming from. Also we do have a wide range of contraceptives available to us.
