Remain had 'unfair advantage' with Cameron's £9.3m leaflet

A £9.3 MILLION leafleting onslaught gave David Cameron’s Remain campaign an unfair advantage in the run-up to the June 2016 referendum, a new report suggests. The pro-EU camp used millions in public funds to distribute the leaflets in April, just before the crunch vote on exiting the single bloc. The leaflets urged Britons to vote to Remain in the EU when they want to the polls on June 23. But the Independent Commission on Referendums is now demanding an extension on bans stopping ministers using bottomless pits of taxpayers’ money to help promote their argument in the final month of a campaign. The cross-party body also believes the election watchdog should be allowed to seek a court injunction banning such material. Its report says: “The Commission is concerned that the current restrictions on government during referendum campaigns permit potentially unlimited spending of public money in favour of one side before the final four weeks. “Less than three months before the EU referendum, the UK government spent £9.3 million of public funds distributing a leaflet entitled, “Why the government believes that voting to remain in the EU is the best decision for the UK’, the purpose of which, it claimed, was to help the public make an informed decision in the upcoming EU referendum. “The Commission is concerned that the current restrictions on government during referendum campaigns permit potentially unlimited spending of public money in favour of one side before the final four weeks.” https://www.express.co.uk/news/polit...ent-commission |

Nearly 10 million pounds of our money

it was all explained at the time of the leaflet. It was a referendum awareness leaflet which the government is perfectly entitled to do.

The report quite rightly states that it should have been balanced |

A) "Leave" won
B) The High profile Tories behind it are long gone ... So how is this actually relevant now? It's like winning a football match 2-1 and then screeching that the opposing team's goal was off side. |

Prime Minister David Cameron spent almost £10 MILLION pounds of TAX-PAYERS money producing and publishing his anti-Brexit Pamphlet of Lies and cynically timed its delivery to every household in the UK just a few days BEFORE the 'Official Campaign' started so that it could be legally argued that the £10 million did not count as campaign fund 'expenditure' when anyone with both brains and honesty KNEW full well that it was, indeed. If only the 'Leave' campaign had had access to £10 million pounds of Tax-Payers hard-earned to spend on their campaign instead of relying on donations, but then again, you could bet your life that had this BEEN the case, that £10 million would DEFINITELY have been ruled by the 'powers-that-be' as Campaign Funds Expenditure. __________________ |
