Age of adulthood

At what age do we think a kid matures into an adult (in more than just a legal sense)?

Niamh. 24-07-2018 11:25 AM

hhmmm tough one, depends on the person I think but somewhere between 20-23ish? having said that I have an 18 year old daughter and a 20 year old step son and the 18 year old is more of an adult. It also depends alot on their lives as well, how much responsibility they've had/had to take on from a younger age, there's lots of factors

AnnieK 24-07-2018 11:26 AM

Totally depends. I have known some 16 year olds who are more mature then 25 year olds.

I know girls mature faster than boys so the age of maturity’s probably a little earlier for girls than boys too.

Gone for 21, as others have said it depends on the person, i think 25 is pushing it a bit though

Crimson Dynamo 24-07-2018 11:33 AM

certainly not below 20

Mhm. Anything under 25 can still pass as youth.

Nicky91 24-07-2018 11:58 AM

21 i think

Shaun 24-07-2018 12:04 PM

the answer is "one year above whatever I currently am"

Vicky. 24-07-2018 12:26 PM

Apparently the brain is not fully developed until (I think its...) 25

I think some people mature a lot earlier than others though. I lived on my own and had a job since being 16 and managed perfectly well. I do think I am a totally different person now though from then

Youth yes, but the question is adulthood! You are definitely an adult at age 25

Cal. 24-07-2018 12:40 PM

Probably 25 for men. 21ish for women.

Cal. 24-07-2018 12:41 PM

A shudder at some people classing me as an adult!

The rational part of a teen's brain isn't fully developed and won't be until age 25 or so.

21 to 24’s young adult and 25’s adult in my opinion. 18-20s are legal children for the most part. Especially the lads.

21, the age where a teen has properly transitioned into an adult.

18 could work as well if the teen matures fast...

16 is too young and 25 is a bit too old, for most people.

Crimson Dynamo 24-07-2018 01:46 PM

when you get a mortgage and a car and a ring

Id say you cant escape it then

Mystic Mock 24-07-2018 02:40 PM

I think that people on average tend to start feeling more independent at around the 16-17 mark so I voted for that on the poll.

Withano 24-07-2018 02:43 PM

I would say theres a huge difference between a young adult and an adult

24 is about the time when you stop having excuses for being bad at life
