Serious Debates - legitimate is it.

Does serious debates mean what it says - as it seems that anything that touches on serious subjects that affect us all but are likely to cause contention get wiped before they get started. How can people really have ‘serious debates’ in such an environment. Does personal opinion affect the decision to delete and should it?

The problem with serious debates at the moment is people seem incapable of actually sticking to the subject of threads rather than eachother.

It would be fantastic if everyone could debate topics properly and we could have interesting discussions though, I agree

But I think some people deliberately railroad a thread and closing it simply plays right into their hands. They don’t want discussion on certain subjects they simply want to shut it down which fuels anger and bad feeling. Not the way to go in my opinion.

"Some" people on all sides do this

You can't have a serious debate. You all have to be on the same side or you get hounded the way you have, Brillo. I don't agree with everything you say... but the abuse you've had on here is unacceptable. And there's no way it's 50/50. It#s more like 20/80.

Coupling it with 'Celebrity' just made a mockery of the whole thing.
