Captain Marvel [Released March 2019]

First trailer for this new Marvel film.

James 18-09-2018 02:12 PM

Her punching an old lady on a bus is quite edgy for Marvel.

Tom4784 18-09-2018 03:00 PM

I'm....unsure tbh.

I love Brie Larson but she's not giving me the right energy so far and I didn't find anything that exciting tbh. Hopefully it's just a bad trailer.

Tony Montana 18-09-2018 03:11 PM

They should have cast Katee Sackhoff instead

LeatherTrumpet 18-09-2018 03:35 PM

Finally a MAGA version

:amazed:

Ramsay 18-09-2018 03:36 PM

Coulson!!

Brother Leon 18-09-2018 07:49 PM

Trailer did nothing for me tbh and I’m a Marvel fanboy.

Toy Soldier 18-09-2018 08:32 PM

I think the major problem here is that no one who isn't either A) an in-depth comics fan or B) someone who has read up on the MCU extensively online... is going to find that entire trailer really confusing and have absolutely no idea what's going on. I'm sort of concerned that might apply to the entire film . I get that they don't want to do "yet another samey origin story" but in this case I think they kind of needed to :umm2:.

I fall into category B) so I understand who the character is, who the other characters are supposed to be, where she came from, her place in the MCU etc. and tbh even then the trailer left me with no idea of how the movie is going to flow.

I'll give it the benefit of the doubt but yeah... as mentioned, I think a more bog-standard origin movie was needed for Captain Marvel?

Oliver_W 19-09-2018 03:07 PM

It seems ... okay. Brie Lawson is a bit of a charisma vacuum, and this trailer doesn't really make it look all that exciting...

Also, when it comes to the MCU at this point all I care about is a)Tony surviving the next Avengers movie and b)the next Spidey film.

Tony Montana 19-09-2018 03:28 PM

Tbf this is just a teaser. I’m sure the official Trailer will be miles better

Lol

Also I don’t think Tony will survive Avengers 4.

Relax Dude, I like Tony just as much as you, But i think he has run his course in the MCU. His Death would be a Fantastic Conclusion to Phase 3.

Seen the movie. It was fine - it wasn't terrible, nor was it up there with the best of the MCU. Brie Lawson seems a bit miscast - a lot of the time it seems like she doesn't want to be there, but that could be the direction. Either way, she's not the one he franchise should be pushing as the next "main" Avenger.

The movie felt like it was trying to be Guardians of the Galaxyish, with the nostalgic pop culture, but it was just falling flat.

All that said, watching an MCU movie in the cinema is like watching a Star Wars movie - Disney SW sucks, but it's near impossible to sit in the cinema and not enjoy it.

They need to overall Carole's character if they want her to be the main character going forward. She's too perfect, too competent and nothing is ever going to be a challenge for her. This is the first time Marvel's done a film featuring a mega powerful hero and this is why. She's too powerful and unrelatable and a lot of the themes of feminism in the film were badly written, it honestly felt like a man wrote it and he didn't have a good understanding of what feminism actually was.

Marvel should have taken notes from Wonder Woman which does an excellent job of making Wonder Woman relatable and likable as well as handling feminism in a way that's informative and welcoming to all.

Marvel fell into the trap of going overboard with Captain Marvel because she's a woman instead of just writing her like they would any other hero. We like Marvel characters because they **** up, they have peaks and valleys to their personalities and they face difficulties that they overcome. Captain Marvel had none of that.

I liked the film but I agree Dezzy she appears to be the strongest hero of all time, and that’s supposed to be Superman even though he has weaknesses, I just feel like fire hands is a bit lame tbh

Oliver_W 20-03-2019 08:06 PM

Wonder Woman was really good, definitely the best from DC.
Another thing DC did right was that Gal Gadot comes off as likeable in interviews, and as far as I know she didn't spend ages sperging on about white guys etc.
This sort of thing shouldn't affect a movie, as movies are separate from reality, but I still had her whining in my head as I watched the movie.

James 03-12-2019 06:46 PM

I watched this yesterday on a streaming site. It was okay, not one of the best.

I agree to an extent however she was knocked out of the park by Thanos with the power stone in his paw so she's not invulnerable... but yes, the enemy has to be god-level power to seem like any sort of threat and that's a slight problem. DC has consistently had the same issue with Superman... in fact, I believe it's what prompted the "invention" of Kryptonite in the first place, as a Deus Ex Machina that means Supes can always be vulnerable if green K is involved. It's been used well in the movies but was massively over-used in Smallville, though again, with the (somewhat sensible) in-story explanation that there's a higher than normal amount of green K in Smallville, as that's where the meteor shower containing Kal-El's pod landed, and also the Luthors have been gathering it up so as adult-superman out in the wider world, he won't be encountering anything like as much of it.

Why do so many people like Tony anyways ??

He has no ‘powers’ and doesn’t seem to be ‘such’ a nice guy like maybe Deadpool does?!?

By the end phase of Iron Man tech (nanotechnology) Tony effectively does have powers, as the suit is basically part of his physiology and grows / regenerates around him when he's in Iron Man mode... meaning his "natural" power level is any power that the Iron Man suit has. :hee:
