Rylans insinuations on BOTS last night

On a thread here the other day about Cameron coming out someone made a comment about how if it were a Lesbian coming out people wouldn't have taken it so seriously as Lesbians aren't taken as seriously as gay men. I'm not gay so I wouldn't have any actual experience to comment on that but I did think at the time that maybe that comment had a bit of truth to it, then low and behold last night on BOTS Rylan seemed to be suggesting maybe Brooke would "turn" for Lewis or something? I don't think he would ever have made such comments had it been a gay man and a straight woman who were being tactile with eachother, I thought it was a bit insulting to both Brooke and Lesbians in general and kind of sexist thinking like "Oh she just needs a good shag off a man" type crap. Am I reading too much into that? Thoughts?

It’s certainly very insulting that he shares his experiences and champions cameron on bots then goes and says something like that. It could really go to show a lot of things. That he’s a sexist piece of crap, or that he only pretends to care for whatever narrative is being forced down people’s throats. It’s up for deducing

That's a point, could also be a bit of both.

bitontheslide 11-10-2018 09:04 AM

it is reinforcing the notion that all a woman needs is a good man. I didn't see it, but the hypocrisy is pretty ridiculous

Yeah exactly what I was thinking BOTS

Rylan represents the views of many gay men. He thinks beoing gay is far more normal than being lesbian or even straight. His vies border on the fct that being gay is the most normal of ways to be and if you are not gay, you get pitied. Sadly his involvement in the show has been one of the main reasons why its dead and going under. The show and most of the forums are regarded as a gay domain and sadly there are a lot of straight people, mainly over 50, that cant feel totally at home with his antics. I certainly dont find him that entertaining with his judge rylan, or his radio show skits. They are kiddy tv style and annoying to boot. The gay angle has killed off BB and thats a fact.

I don't agree that "the gay angle" has killed off BB but I do agree that Rylan has killed off BOTS by making it the Rylan show rather than a spin off to discuss the HMs etc. I was disappointed in his attitude as a gay man himself, you would think he would have more of an understanding of Lesbians but clearly not

Babayaro. 11-10-2018 09:28 AM

I never watched it, but that's pretty poor from Rylan.

Jordan. 11-10-2018 09:30 AM

Didn't watch BOTS but I have noticed people saying it on here too.

Yeah same, whereas Cian can be drapped all over Zoe or Isabella and no one would ever dream of saying there might be more to it other than just being tactile with a friend. Big double standards

Yup.

Lesbophobia is rampant everywhere tbh, even (sometimes especially) from gay men.

But this people saying it on the forum thing has seriously been pissing me off. And of course its a 'a good man would set her right' kind of thing :bored:

Amy Jade 11-10-2018 08:33 PM

I noticed this the other night, not on bots but here where people were insisting she must fancy Lewis and want his dick basically.

Jack_ 11-10-2018 08:47 PM

To be fair (and I may be remembering this wrongly), didn't Brooke say she used to date men, had a bad ex and then ditched them altogether - and that her "coming out" or homosexuality wasn't conventional?

I didn't see the remarks in question but I do think their relationship is peculiar, especially when you factor in the nomination stuff too. That's not to say I think she wants his dick, or that he's going to "turn" her...but I definitely think there's something interesting there (moreso on his side). Was it her that said the other night she'd like to watch him have sex?

This is why I made a thread about if Cameron was a woman would he gain the same sympathy & support .

Rylan is a hypocrite and a complete idiot on BOTS , I've actually missed a few episodes as he's Soo insufferable and he's too biased for Tomasz & Cameron :bored: .

susie q 11-10-2018 08:56 PM

Im not gay, but also found Rylands attitude insulting. Im also old enough to remember the time when the 'she just needs a good man' attitude was the norm. Disgraceful to think that this attitude still lingers.

Doesn’t Brooke like men aswell though iirc?
She’s just into women atm.Maybe She’s abit bi?
Not that i’m defending Rylan. Can’t stand the twerp.

No, she clearly said she's a lesbian, wishful thinking?

Lots of gay men dated women before they came out too though

I got hammered on fb earlier for disagreeing with someone on it :skull:

Brooke actually has made comments to Lewis like 'you're everything I'd look for in a boyfriend' and highlighted how attractive he is, said she'd like to watch him have sex etc so I don't think it's that poor of Rylan tbh. I'm pretty sure she said quite early in the series that whilst being a Lesbian she could also be attracted to guys

Yeah she said he was everything she would want in a boyfriend, if she was straight. But then she went on to say she could never be sexual with a bloke, and has said she is a lesbian many times...so, sounds like a lesbian to me

Ant. 11-10-2018 10:33 PM

I was appalled tbh

It's one thing to theorise a straight/bi man and a straight/bi woman will get together based on their friendship, but another for him to assume a lesbian would want Lewis as a partner because she complimented him :umm2:

Like I think what makes it sting is that we saw her had a lovely moment after Cameron came out in which she reflected on her sexuality and how she came to terms with it like, a day or two before he made said comments. And the fact he's gay too. I wasn't a big BOTS watcher last year (or any year), but did he ever even jokingly say Chanelle and Raph would get together? :suspect: I highly doubt it. I don't mean to look too much into this but I highly doubt he would be saying this if the genders were swapped (as in, he would never theorise that a gay guy would get with a woman)

She said the problem was she wouldn't want to have sex with a man but that doesn't mean she can't be attracted to him, I mean she's basically said that she does find him attractive. Yes she's lesbian but I think she's also suggested there's some fluidity to her sexuality so I dont think it's that offensive

She was certainly impressed by Isaac's penis.
