Coming out and pretending that it's still 1985 or something
Honestly, it's 2018... Very very few people give a ****.
|
mmm unless you're from a madly religious family or something, is anyone really bothered anymore?
|
I know people in my own family that would be bothered by me, the majority of people might not be bothered anymore, but it’s still a scary thing to do
|
not a fan but coming out is a big step for a lot of LGBT youth so i can at least understand why it's such a big deal
however his family apparently already knew so i don't know who exactly was he coming out to? |
..I’m guessing it’s probably less about others and whether they care or not...but more about yourself and choosing whether you want to come out and how you want to come out etc...an individual, personal thing...

The whole, "I never intended to come out in the house" thing is such clear BS. This has been my problem with Cam from day 1... His contrived moves in there. I like HMs that play the game against the house, but I 'hate' HMs that try to win by playing the public. |

Coming out is largely to do with self acceptance as much as the acceptance of others. And as a (I’m going to assume) straight poster you are not really allowed to have an opinion on the gay experiences of others..

Also, it's not your place to state what I am allowed or not allowed, whatever my sexuality. |
Its easy for some people, difficult for others and everybody still knows its better than it was in the earlier couple decades.
Kinda basic stuff really, wasn’t worth a thread. |
It still is like 1985 and even well before then too due to the prejudices of some.
Attitudes that still make it hard for those who feel a need to reveal their sexuality. Fearing still, yes fearing, the reactions of a cruel minority maybe, in this day and age. |
If you don't care, or anyone for that matter, then why bother using it as a stick to bash him with?
|
A lot of people are still very homophobic, even some young people in certain communities, so it’s still quite hard

And as a gay person, you aren't allowed an opinion on when or how we/my community come out or choose to accept ourselves. period. Just like it's not my place, as a white person, to comment on the lived racist experience a person of colour may have suffered, whether I see racism as an active evil in the world today or not. get it? The fact that we live in a world where 'coming out' is still a thing - then yes - people still do care. Straight people don't have to 'come out', they just exist, when it becomes that way for other people, then we've hit an equal ground, until then, we haven't. |
People still kill themselves because they are gay you stupid ****

Quick question before I pop out. Is it only blacks and gays that are allowed to tell people what they can or can't have an opinion on, or is there more.. I will buy a pen when I'm out and jot them all down so I can know what discussions to avoid in the future. |
Let the poor lad have his storyline. He needed some way to get the public on side

1984? |
OP has outraged me so much. Coming out is still a major thing even these days, and even when you have liberally minded parents it can still be a challenge.
