The Simpsons Indian character Apu 'axed' after racial controversy
[The Simpsons is going to drop Indian character
Apu following a backlash against alleged racial stereotyping, a producer has claimed. Kwik-E-Mart owner Apu Nahasapeemapetilon will be quietly written out of the long-running TV cartoon series to "avoid the controversy", Adi Shankar said. The Indian-American producer said he was told by two people who work on the show and a third source who works with creator Matt Groening.] https://e3.365dm.com/18/04/1096x616/...20180409224407 https://news.sky.com/story/the-simps...versy-11537982 Sneak him out of the Story's typical Disney like action. |
Simpsons goes SJW

A bit of a dumb decision really. Wasn't it just some white Women's Studies "student" who was whinging about how offensive it is?

In a way they just started it, it was debated on USA News a year ago or so. I guess the Store name will change on a episode. |

Everyone in it is a fecking stereotype.I’d argue that it’s more racist to just pick on the Indian guy to be dropped.
|
sad to see him get axed from the Simpsons, was one of my fave characters :(
|
a truly ridiculous decision

Not TiBB's fault you can't be thorough. You'd soon kick off for it to be moved if someone else did it. Life in the Accurate Lane |

Worse they will sneak him out of the story it would be better to have a Bomb Go off and he is Killed. |
Apu isn't just a character, he's a much loved character. Not everything is racist. It's a mad decision pandering to the hopelessly offended.

Simpsons has been on TV for almost 30 years !!! . Longer if you include the short clips from the Tracy Ullmen show .
Why is Apu who is just a character of many on a comedy cartoon all of a sudden classed as racist??  . All the characters are tongue in cheek . Non of them are about being accurate and I don't find any of them offensive. Nobody seems to mind the angry Scots man groudskeeper Willie though? who lives in a shack . Or the Mexican guy dressed as a bee for his sitcoms ?? who's always accident prone as he screams in Spanish . Clearly The Simpsons is an easy target ,I don't see complaints about south Park or family guy who literally do tasteless jokes and offend everyone . I don't understand why all of a sudden ,years later now people are offended and why have they picked on Apu??. Or is this the start of all the characters who are minority "stereotypes" getting axed as well :suspect: . |
I would normally care, but I feel like Simpsons hasn't really felt cannon for many many seasons at this point...

When i think of episodes that have really made me laugh , or storyline's that have been well written it's usually the much older seasons from 1 - 10 . But i still think the outcry over the character Apu is ridiculous when he's a loved character and not to be taken seriously . But i don't understand why garbage shows like South Park still keep churning out new episodes  . |
