A man playing the video game Fortnite has been charged with assaulting his partner after the alleged incident was watched by other gamers during a livestream.

NSW Police attended a home in Oran Park in Sydney's south-west around 11.30pm Sunday night after a witness reported the alleged assault of a 21-year-old woman.

They charged a 26-year-old man with common assault and served him with an apprehended violence order.

Video of the incident was streamed from the account of MrDeadMoth and shared online on Sunday night.

In it, a woman off camera asks him to leave the computer because he is missing dinner.

"I'll be out soon," he replied.

A cardboard box and other items appear to be thrown at him from across the camera.

"Can you not," the man says.

The man leaves his desk before a slapping noise is heard off camera and a woman is heard crying.

"You're a *******ing woman basher," she sobs, before her voice addresses those watching the livestream.

"You hear that, all you people there, he just hit me in the face."
The man then tried to continue playing the game but she demands that he stop.

"******* off you dog, you don't pay the *******ing bills," he says before disappearing off camera again.

A thudding noise can be heard before a woman is heard loudly wailing.

"Go away stop touching my *******ing ****," he yells.

"Get out of my *******ing life."

While he is sitting down it sounds as though something is thrown at him, and he rushes off camera again.

Shortly afterwards a woman is heard screaming again, and a child is heard shouting in the background.

Police said two girls, aged three and 20 months, were home at the time.

They said the woman was not seriously injured but was "distressed and shaken" by the incident.

The man has been granted conditional bail and will appear at Camden local court on Thursday.

"Gamers" really are the worst of the worst. I love playing games, but I really despise the whole 'angry gamer' bull****, because it leads to **** like this, if playing a game makes you want to hit people, maybe take a ****ing break.

And I suppose if he hit her during an argument about putting the bins out the blame would be put on naughty bins making people violent. :omgno:

Thank god he was stupid enough to do it on camera so there's more than enough evidence to convict him. I only hope that the girlfriend walks away from him and stays away lest history repeat itself when there's not as much evidence against him.

As for violent video games and their effects, scapegoating is for people too shortsighted to see the forest for the trees. Games can't make someone violent, violent people are violent regardless of their hobbies, it's their experiences and personalities that make them that way, not playing a video game that actually contains no graphic violence to speak of.

Exactly Dezzy. While a violent game/any media may trigger something in people with those tendencies, it doesn’t create them. And there’s been nothing yet to suggest that he is blaming video games for it at all.

:nono: You know better than that Dia... competitive online multiplayer gamers are not real gamers :hmph:.

The video has been uploaded to YouTube, it took me about 12seconds to find. Don’t reccomend it, the article was incredibly accurate in describing the events. The comments on the video are grim.

Very true. If they actually gave a toss about gaming and not likes, streamers wouldn’t be playing broken trash like Fortnite and PUBG.

I dunno, it's leaking into all parts of the gaming fandom these days, it's like poison, the whole outrage culture surrounding games these days is too much. I remember when gaming was about fun and escapism.

Tom4784 10-12-2018 09:43 PM

I gotta agree with Dia that the gaming community, at least on the internet is ****ing vile. Endless incels looking for reasons to get mad over imaginary SJW boogeymen. Stereotypical in every way.

Cal. 10-12-2018 09:47 PM

****ing disgrace.

Marsh. 10-12-2018 09:52 PM

Just watched it. He looks about 12.

I think you can hear young kids too. ****ing needs to grow up.

Sounds like a petulant child being told to get up for school by his mum. Arsehole.
