what can be done to make more black and asians cycle in london.

Cyclists in London are typically white, under 40, male and with a medium to high household income. These aren’t my words, they are Transport for London’s.

The most recent data, which unfortunately is from 2011, suggests that only seven per cent of London’s cyclists are from ethnic minority groups. The statistic is made doubly strange when you consider that 41 per cent of Londoners are non-white.

I THINK THE LATEST FIGURES SHOW IT AT 1 PERCENT.

Take their cars away?

Ban them from public transport?

Free bikes?

Honestly I don’t think you could do anything.

I don’t see why it matters though.Unless under representation is making the hobby of cycling look racist?

There's your answer. Non-white minorities aren't paid enough.

That's how it works, you either drive a car you can't afford, or have so much income you have three cars on the drive you never use and cycle to work. :hehe:

Come on now, Niamh. Women can't cycle unless you add a trailer for all the shopping and the babies. :nono:

Why is it women’s bikes that get the low cross bar when it’s the men who have the balls?

I've asked that question many times, makes no sense. I don't know why all bikes don't have the low cross bar, why make life more difficult?

its simple, ladies wearing a skirt can then get on the bike keeping their dignity intact  As to why mens are different, i have no idea, perhaps it is more structurally sound with the bar at the top

Why would men get bikes that are more structurally sound than women? That makes no sense

I have heard it all now, must be the tax, insurance and fuel for the bike that puts it out of reach

I wonder if it is a cultural thing like they see it as a primitive form of travel and maybe associate it with poor people, wheres Redway when you need him

It doesn't matter as much if women hurt themselves, it's not like laundry can't be done if you're sitting down. But who will chop the wood and tend the fire if men are out of action? Bit short sighted of you.

Nah.

Oliver_W 23-01-2019 04:48 PM

Maybe there should be entire racks full of bicycles all over London which are free to use or something.
