Beth Tweddle is suing C4's The Jump

Britain's most decorated female gymnast has issue legal proceedings against The Jump TV show - after she suffered fractured vertebrae when she crashed into a barrier.

Beth Tweddle MBE, 33, had to undergo surgery on her spinal cord after the crash during a training jump on the show in 2016.

Olympic Bronze medallist Beth has now launched legal proceedings against the makers of the show and said she is not sure if she will "ever be 100% again".

She added: “It’s been a long journey and my recovery is still ongoing.

"The effects of my accident still interrupt my daily life, and aside from the severe physical injuries at the start, the hardest part of the recovery process has been the psychological element, dealing with and processing the whole accident and the aftermath of what happened.

"I said before that I don’t want this accident to define me, and I work hard every day to ensure that isn’t the case.

“It’s disappointing that we have had to seek court proceedings as we had hoped the makers of the programme might be willing to work with us to settle the case.

"But I just want to make sure that there is full accountability for people involved in creating shows like this and to help prevent others having to go through what I have for the past three years.”

The Jump show on Channel 4 involved various celebrities training to compete in ski-jumps.

Demetrius Danas, a specialist international serious injury lawyer at Irwin Mitchell representing Beth, from Cheshire, said she had to "put many parts of her life and career" on hold after the crash.

He said: “While training for The Jump TV show Beth suffered severe injuries including two fractured vertebrae requiring serious surgery on her spinal cord.

"She has had to put many parts of her life and career on hold and while Beth is making a good recovery, she still cannot do many of the things she previously could as an elite athlete and may never fully recover.

“Despite attempts to settle the legal case amicably the defendants involved in making The Jump have so far denied any liability for her injuries and we have been left with no choice but to issue court proceedings as we seek to resolve the case.”

Several other contestants suffered injuries during series three of The Jump including Tina Hobley, Linford Christie, Mark-Francis Vandelli, and Rebecca Adlington.

About being so unsafe she would be left with lifelong injuries? I don't think she did. :joker:

She knew the possibilities of what could happen if she got injured, she didn’t have to take the risk

A mess, but I agree if you take part in extreme sports you know the risk involved

It's not just about that though, clearly certain measures should have been in place in the event of something like this. Sounds like the production company hasn't fulfilled all of their responsibilities and duty of care in regards to insurance etc. If she's still requiring such severe treatment 3 years on, the poor love is owed that cash.

Rumour is Jessica Ennis shoved her down the stairs for daring to think she would be more famous than her.

That's not how health and safety law works in television, the company is always immediately at fault and then people can individually be ruled out of liability.

Contributors/celebrities, regardless of what's in their contract, are under the duty of care of the production company whilst under contract.

I hope Sarah was breathalysed after.
