M&S 'biryani' wrap causes controversy
 

"I wouldn't say that (the wrap) is a biryani because a biryani is a rice-based dish and we don't use wraps when we make one - that's a no-no. And sweet potato is something we don't traditionally use either.
"It's great that M&S is trying to show that there are different varieties of food out there, but we'd like it to be truer to its nature," she added.
It's not the first time the retailer has been accused of cultural appropriation.
It was criticised over the authenticity of its curry kits just last year, while Jamie Oliver came under fire for selling microwaveable jerk rice.
Even the humble Cornish pasty hasn't escaped the controversy, after a vegan version was launched.
But while some find the wrap culturally offensive, others simply see it as just another grab-and-go option for lunch.

I don't get why it's suddenly becoming a big deal? I mean, have these people never had a "fajita" wrap from somewhere like ASDA or Tesco? Because they are NOT fajitas, I tells ye :fist:.

I'm not so much worried about the cultural implications as the fact that someone might bite into one expecting a delicious fajita, and instead get... I dunno what it is... like a chicken caesar wrap with some spice mix and peppers in it...

Food is OFF LIMITS when it comes to cultural appropriation. Also why does nobody understand what appropriation is? Is when you try to pass off someone else's culture as your own. Unless it says British Biryani then it's not appropriation, it's a spin on a classic Indian curry. Now fook off!

I made samosas the other day.I suppose that was cultural appropriation too cos i is not Indian.The whole concept is ridiculous.People globally have been ‘borrowing’ from other cultures for thousands of years.
Even more ridiculous when it comes to food.
