Are you a rude queue jumper?

British people i have found generally are happy to queue and take their turn except when it comes to queuing in supermarkets and stores, its quite common place for those last in the queue to go haring off as soon as another till opens without so much as a nod to the people who were in front of them in the queue and it really does my head in :oh:

So it is okay to do this or is the polite thing to do to offer the people in front the chance and if they don't want to move then hare off...

Niamh. 01-02-2019 01:34 PM

Oh I hate that too, I'd always say to the person in front to go ahead but loads just leg it, queue jumping is a real pet peeve of mine though

AnnieK 01-02-2019 01:43 PM

If I am approaching a queue and people have already started putting their stuff on it and another checkout opens, I'm like Linford Christie onto the newly open till. If I have a full trolley load though and someone comes behind me with only a couple of things I will let them in front of me.

Strictly Jake 01-02-2019 01:44 PM

If they already have some stuff on the conveyor then I would rush over to the next till as they have already commited to that till. Someone once had a go at me over it though oops

Crimson Dynamo 01-02-2019 01:47 PM

No i am civilised and not a mainland european

bots 01-02-2019 01:52 PM

no, i'm always very pleasant and polite if I jump the queue :smug:

I was standing in the queue recently and most of the people in front had their stuff on the belt then another till opened two or three tills down from where I was standing so the person in front said they would stay where they were, and the guy behind me a man in his late 20s was shouting to his girlfriend who was still shopping which till is opening and I like an idiot said no. 5 and he sprinted off in front of me and put his stuff up, so I said 'are you actually going to do that" so he looked at me in amazement like I was some kind of alien and said what do you mean, so I said are you actually going to push in front of me even though you knew I was ahead of you in the queue and also I even told you which till was opening, so then he got all huffy and said ….well now you have been so rude yes I am blah blah, ….at that point I thought it probably not even worth getting into this as he probably would stab me, so I shrugged my shoulders and wished all his tyres would get slashed under my breath :hee:

caprimint 01-02-2019 02:04 PM

I've been known to do this but 9 times out of 10 I don't, it just annoys me when they're not paying attention so tbh if they're zoned out in their own world I don't see the problem

I've found people don't like when their queue jumping assholeness is pointed out

thesheriff443 01-02-2019 02:12 PM

I was in a Lidl que the other day and that exact thing happened, the que next to me was busy as they all are all the time.

One women had a couple of things and the woman in front had a pull along basket full, the woman with the couple of things asked could she go in front of the Chinese woman with the full basket she reluctantly said yes, but then said no I’m going in front as I’ve got a lot of things to do today, I was disgusted.

Also his "well now you've been rude yes I am" bit makes no sense at all considering he'd already done it before you opened your mouth anyway :oh:

RileyH 01-02-2019 02:19 PM

Since when was going to another till such a big issue

they were an asshole couple anyway she was still shopping, and not just that item that you have forgotton but she arrived with loads of stuff ….

bots 01-02-2019 02:23 PM

on line shopping is stress free

thesheriff443 01-02-2019 02:25 PM

I think I come across as rude on here at times but in real life im a gentleman.

After years of waiting in hospitals to be seen I’ve taken on a relaxed approach towards waiting my turn.

That happened to me at Christmas, I was behind this guy who was loading is shopping and chatting to the checkout lady about anything and everything, I was already getting pissed off, then his wife arrived with another armful of stuff that he painstakingly put in order on the belt, she went off whilst he chatted some more, then she cam went off and came back with another load and then his mother in law came with absolutely loads of booze which all needed the collar things taken off while he packed them before paying and then carried on his conversation afterwards. I was RAGING by the end  All my food was launched in my trolley and then I flounced off to pack

:laugh2: awful, the thing is if someone did that to them they would be the first to moan!

Beso 01-02-2019 03:08 PM

Depends who's in front really..if it's a really old woman I would jump in front cause they take ages, usually spend about 2 mins rummaging in their tiny purses for 15p in change, chatting away to the till worker.

armand.kay 01-02-2019 03:30 PM

if i see a hellishly long queue at the supermarket i will literally go and do anything else i refuse to deal with that.

This happened to me after Christmas when I was queuing for the self-service tills and a till opened on the side and everyone behind me swarmed over. I was pissed until I saw the people that had jumped were still queuing while I was leaving the shop with my reduced Christmas treats. :hee:

This.

They made the choice to go to that till so if another one opens then that’s their loss.

Crimson Dynamo 01-02-2019 03:51 PM

We beep our own stuff and then just waltz through the queues like Bob the Drag Queen and Cynthia Lee Fontaine

Gstar 01-02-2019 04:08 PM

I try to use self scan tills to avoid this but it’s happened to me before and people just let me go in front of them because I never have that many stuff.

The best way to avoid people and queues is to do late night shopping at a 24 hour supermarket. It’s chilled and you can actually concentrate more
