Penny Dreadful: City of Angels [Penny Dreadful spin-off]

Thought it was worth making a new thread for this rather than just post in the main Penny Dreadful thread, especially with new info starting to come out even though an airdate is probably a good while off. Though it'll probably be a repeat of the original thread / 12 Monkeys thread with just me and Niamh watching

PENNY DREADFUL: CITY OF ANGELS opens in 1938 Los Angeles, a time and place deeply infused with social and political tension. When a grisly murder shocks the city, Detective Tiago Vega (Daniel Zovatto) is embroiled in an epic story that reflects the rich history of Los Angeles: from the building of the city's first freeways and its deep traditions of Mexican-American folklore, to the dangerous espionage actions of the Third Reich and the rise of radio evangelism. Before long, Tiago and his family are grappling with powerful forces that threaten to tear them apart. PENNY DREADFUL: CITY OF ANGELS explores an exciting mix of the supernatural and the combustible reality of the period, creating new occult myths and moral dilemmas within a genuine historical backdrop.

Cast so far:

Natalie Dormer as Magda, a supernatural demon that can take the form of anyone she chooses.
Daniel Zovatto as Detective Tiago Vega, the LAPD's first Mexican-American detective.
Jessica Garza as Josefina, the youngest of the Vega family.
Johnathan Nieves as Mateo Vega, Tiago's younger brother.

A lot of people are writing this off already because of no Eva Green but honestly the writing and stunning cinematography / atmosphere was always the top draw for me so Vanessa not being in it doesn't affect my excitement, as much as I loved her. Lily was my favourite character anyway.

Also Natalie Dormer's casting is a great booking so I have faith this show is in strong hands.

Rory Kinnear who played The Creature in the original show is confirmed to be returning as an apparently new character

Dr. Peter Craft is a successful German paediatrician and the head of the German-American Bund, an organization he hopes will keep the United States isolated from the growing threat of war in Europe

Very interesting they're bringing back an original cast member as somebody new. If I remember correctly, in the original show they had Patti Lupone's second role be a descendent of her first so I wonder if they connect Rory's characters somehow

Other cast additions:

Nathan Lane (Timon!) as Lewis Michener. A veteran officer in the LAPD, wise to the ways of the world and ruthless in pursuit of his goals, Lewis becomes the partner and mentor of fellow cop Tiago Vega.

Adriana Barazza as Maria Vega, the powerful matriarch of the Vega family, who will go to any lengths to protect her children from the dangerous world of 1938 social politics, as well as from the chilling supernatural forces invading their lives.
