Do you read spoilers?

As it says in the titles really, I was having a discussion with someone who said that If you know what's going to happen in a story, it's proven you enjoy the story more, the anticipation and build up to it makes it more satisfying, but I disagree.

Do y’all read them and if so do you agree?

Babayaro. 06-03-2019 09:42 AM

I try not to but I can be guilty of doing so

LeatherTrumpet 06-03-2019 09:43 AM

i dont care for surprises

Cal. 06-03-2019 09:44 AM

Why though? Doesn’t it spoil the surprise of what’s to come?

Tony Montana 06-03-2019 09:53 AM

Nope, I avoid them at all cost

Toy Soldier 06-03-2019 12:44 PM

I try my very best to avoid them but sometimes it's impossible.

My wife suggested we wait until the GoT finale and then binge it and I would absolutely LOVE to but I was like "We literally can't, there'll be spoilers everywhere." We may attempt to binge the final 3 episodes the day after the finale.

It's also the reason that I'll be seeing Endgame as close to the release as possible, and the internet will be full of spoilers.

With lesser-known things I like to save up episodes and binge rather than watch week to week.

Niamh. 06-03-2019 12:49 PM

No I hate spoilers

Lostie! 06-03-2019 01:05 PM

Depends, I avoid them for the things I'm more interested in. So I'll avoid Westworld spoilers like the plague, whereas some shows I enjoy I'll probably still read them.

I don't go cinema massively often so if I do it's for something I want to watch unspoiled.

I don’t think so no. You still enjoy the build up and see exactly how it plays out for yourself anyway.

Cal. 06-03-2019 01:11 PM

With reading spoilers I think you can enjoy the surprise twice as well.

Reading them you have a ‘wtf how does that possibly happen’ moment and then you get the same enjoyment once again when you actually watch it play out.

Partly why I made this thread, there’s S8 spoilers online and I’m in two minds as to whether or not to read them

Marsh. 06-03-2019 01:38 PM

Sometimes can't help myself but for stuff I'm really invested in no. I always want to go in cold.

Especially for twist endings etc. Even knowing there's a twist ahead of time spoils it as you inevitably start guessing what sort of twists could occur and spoil it for yourself.

I want to be left gobsmacked. :hmph:

Mokka 06-03-2019 01:43 PM

I try to avoid them... not always possible.

reece(: 06-03-2019 01:55 PM

Always read casting spoilers

Strictly Jake 06-03-2019 01:59 PM

If it's walking dead or game of thrones then absolutely not. Everything else yeah

I'd suggest not reading them tbh. With the biggest show on the planet coming to an end and airing its final ever series, do you really want to know what happens before it happens? Or do you want to be amazed, thrilled and gobsmacked?

this

but sometimes i do this thing where i read a bunch of spoilers from a show or movie i've never watched and that causes me to want to watch it :skull:

AnnieK 06-03-2019 02:24 PM

I always read spoilers (and the last few pages of books). I hate myself a little bit afterwards but I can't help myself

Lewismacfarlane 06-03-2019 02:28 PM

I always read spoilers for soaps my mum hates me telling her

Gstar 06-03-2019 02:31 PM

I always try to avoid and I absolutely hate people who spoil things without warning

I used to be like that with Walking Dead but not so much these days  Never minded about GoT spoilers though

armand.kay 06-03-2019 03:24 PM

depends on the show, with reality shows i don't really care if i know the outcome because i watch for the contestants/cast... with scripted drama i don't even like to know i'm gonna be surprised

armand.kay 06-03-2019 03:26 PM

like when someone is like "oh you're in for a shock with episode..." i get annoyed.
