Definitely
I am amazed that EVERYBODY spells this word wrong. It is not 'definately'.
Please ensure you spell it correctly in future. DEFINITELY. |
I always spell it 'definitely.' So you saying 'everybody' is wrong.
|
Same, I've never written it like that before. :)
|
I always used to mistype it a lot when typing fast, then I just remembered that it has FINITE in it... then its easy to slot the other letters around
deFINITEly |
Thanks to Firefox, I'm learning my mistakes on spelling. I think I used to spell it definately instead of definitely.
|
I don't think it matters too much anyway.
As long as posts are somewhat legible, that's the main thing... small errors don't matter. |
I agree it doesn't really matter, but everybody seems to spell it wrong and it irritated me so much, I had to post something. Sorry for the snobbery.
|
If i spell it wrong i just have a spell checker to spell it right for me.

For some people they can't learn from there mistakes those people are dyslexic and they will take offense at this thread and being told they can't spell. They know they can't spell and although they try not to misspell words they continue to do.
Around 10% of the population have some form of dyslexia and that means that 10% of the broad will suffer from this condition. So you could find as many as 10% of posts have spelling mistakes in them. It's okay to say to those people use a spell checker but you are then disadvantaging them by reducing the speed at which they can post. Subjects sometimes move so fast that by the time the person as transfered a from word the point they were making has been missed or posted by someone else. Another problem they have is that because a dyslexic reads by word shape and word shape alone a spell checker just makes things worse and they get the wrong word altogether. Writing the word down over and over again doesn't work for these people either. One of the other problems dyslexics have is that they have poor short term memories and problems with letter and number sequences. It simply doesn't work for them to learn spelling in this way. Now you might ask yourself why I know all this. That is because I am dyslexic and I find threads like this offensive. If you can't make out my spelling or meaning of my post just don't reply. But correct my spelling and I will be deeply insulted. I had enough red pen on my school work to last me a lifetime. And then to come here and be told how to spell is the last think I want in my life. |
I am deeply offended by this.... I am dyslexic.... I cant help this.... and it doesnt help when people pick up on these things.
We have had this before on TiBB and all it did was skrink me back into my shell and make me not post. So thank you. |
Why all the fuss over one tiny mistake???
|
I don't think Moses455 was directly insulting dyslexics, I think he was referring to people who spell the word wrong but don't have dyslexia, or any other kind of condition that has that sort of effect.
Ooh, another one that winds me up is when people misuse their/there/they're, it's really annoying and I get the urge to correct people all the time xD |
Im not dyslexic, but I can definately see how people would be offended by this:laugh:
We had this problem before, its no big deal. So I would just leave it. |

I'm going to close this, just on the basis that we've already been down the spelling route.
I understand that you didn't mean it in a nasty way, Moses - that's not why this is being locked. But to prevent anyone from being offended, I'm going to lock it. |
