She is reported to have made the remark during a talk about women and leadership to pupils at a London secondary.

School chiefs said they were delighted with her lecture, which was attended by around 100 pupils and teachers.

But an audience member accused the wife of former prime minister Tony Blair of making unsubstantiated claims.

Giving her name only as Caitlin, she said: ‘No one seemed to react and I was shocked because I felt like she was in a position of authority
and should take responsibility for saying things like that without any evidence to support it.’

Most African women having rape as first sexual encounter does not equal most African men are rapists.

Off the top of my head its something like 20% of women in the UK have been raped/sexually asaulted. That does not mean 20% of men are predaotrs.

About 10% of adults suffered sexual abuse as children. This does not mean 10% of adults are abusers.

Rape IS an epidemic, and everywhere, not just Africa. I do think it is likely to be even higher places like Africa though, simply because womens rights are virtually non existant (eg. child marriaged, fgm..and so on) and women are viewed as the property of men so they do what they like to them :(

According to Amnesty in South Africa alone there are 6,297,198 rapists and of that number half of them have raped more than once

I don’t know the percentages for this but i’m guessing the word ‘many’ rather than “most” would’ve been more accurate.

As Vicky said, rape is an epidemic everywhere. A huge percentage of women will experience a sexual attack in some form in their lives. I imagine it could be worse in countries with a large rich/poor where poor people will often be abused because they'll fall through the cracks and won't likely be able to seek justice.

Why isn't LT forced to change his misleading and false thread title. We all know he would shout a blue streak if anyone else misworded or misrepresented the article with a sensational title like this.

The stats in Africa are horrific but of course they are sparse and most rapes go unreported and it seems to be part of many cultures there
