35 Years of Wrestlemania

As it's Wrestlemania week, let's countdown to the big event by posting some of your favourite memories and matches over the years.

The first Wrestlmania I watched was Wrestlemania III

I still don't think there's been a bigger main event in Mania history than Hulk Hogan vs Andre the Giant, the hype was huge for the time.

The fight itself was quite boring, Andre wasn't a physically well man at the time and would be dead 5 years later. But this fight was the real birth of Wrestlemania, and without it, Wrestlemania would probably not still be going today.

i think i remember the first one (or remember it setting a record for watchers or something) i certainly watched it back then when it first started with Mr T and Toddy Piper et al

I didn’t start watching WWE until about 2001 so I unfortunately missed that era of Bret Hart, Yokozuna etc. However, this is easily one of my favourite matches from the new generation period and Wrestlemania’s around this time.

The Hardy Boyz returning to win the Raw Tag Titles.

Also all the matches between Hardyz, Dudley Boyz.and Edge and Cristian as they were some of if not the best tag matches ever

Attitude era was great, this is probably my favourite Wrestlemania match from this era

Another favourite moment of mine is the return of the deadman at Wrestlemania XX. Even the promo for this was great (even though Kane contradicts himself a bit).

We can't talk about Mania without mentioning The Undertaker.

I remember his first at Mania VII against Superfly Jimmy Snukka.

I must have watched Mania VII about 50 times, I bet I could still quote most of the commentary if I watched it now.

There’s still a few Undertaker Wrestlemania matches I need to see yet including this one, taker vs Diesel and taker vs Jake Roberts. Plus any after 2009 when I stopped watching WWE.

He's the biggest wrestler I've ever seen.

Yes I watched this one. I didn’t think this was a particularly good match probabaly for the same reason as you mentioned earlier about Hogan vs Andre the Giant.

But Gonzalez was huge, I’m pretty sure he was taller than the Great Khali or on par at least.

The first one I got to watch properly was Wrestlemania 2000 - not the best to start with tbh. Basically all tag team matches bar the main event and a "Cat Fight" :laugh2:

Wrestlemania 17 and 18 always stay special to me though, they were awesome.

Especially Hogan vs. Rock at 18. Probably the best I've ever seen a crowd "invested" in a match, just constant cheering and screaming for about 30 mins.

LaLaLand 01-04-2019 06:18 PM

This is also a recent-but-fav. A great match, probably my fav of the whole night last year actually. Considering who's involved they really did amazingly.

LaLaLand 01-04-2019 06:27 PM

OH how could I forget, Shane vs. Vince in the Street Fight.

I'll never forget the moment, being about 11 years old, when Linda stood up from her chair. The reaction from the crowd ugh... goosebumps.

Lots of memorable specific matches but for lack of wanting to think too deeply about it.... those MITB matches & the yearly tag team ladder/TLC matches :flutter:
