Debenhams Stores now in Admin, Lenders own it all

Yes today or tomorrow
another big old store to go into admin.
Sad for the workers.

https://news.sky.com/story/debenhams...urned-11688411

[Debenhams has taken a step closer to
falling into the hands of its lenders after
a revised last-ditch offer from
Mike Ashley was spurned.
The struggling 240-year-old
department store chain
said an
improved £200m offer - announced i
n the early hours - to underwrite a
rights issue was not enough to
persuade lenders to give it more
time as it seeks new finances.
Debenhams said it would make a
further announcement later on
Tuesday. Shares were suspended
shortly afterwards.]

..I wonder what our town centres and shopping centres will look like for the future generations when there are no retail left in them..?...what will they be..?...maybe finally the solution to the homeless crises...a nice thought...

Amazon Prime stores
could appear more

Ammi 09-04-2019 09:17 AM

....hmmm maybe but eventually they’ll go as well...prime today, gone tomorrow...seems to be the way...why pay huge amounts for premises and staff when you can be prime on the internet without that expenditure...

Ammi 09-04-2019 09:18 AM

...maybe the town centres will be taken over by Arista Stores...there’s a thought...maybe this is all the start of the takeover...

Livia 09-04-2019 09:59 AM

I think the Internet is only partly to blame for the high street crisis. If you've driven into a town centre lately and parked, you know what a rigmarole that is and how much it'll cost you.

Yes councils have a part to play, if they maybe provided some free parking for say 2 hours or so it might bump up trade

Visiting town centres and particularly shopping malls has not been a pleasurable experience for decades, for me anyway. I detest the whole concept of homogenised malls

Ammi 09-04-2019 10:41 AM

...actually parking in our town is no problem...(..it’s not a city though..)...but there are generally spaces in every car park because most of the town premises are closed and empty...so no one to fill the parking spaces/nowhere to shop etc...it is very expensive to park though...that’s because the councils or whoever owned them have sold all of the car parks to these big europark thieving villains...I hope when we Brexit they’ll take their Euro car parking thriving villains with them...the only good thing to come of it if they do...

The Lenders who kept them going with £200million
now own all the shares and all the stores.
Now in Admin
All stores will stay open until the end of the year.

Yes new shops are now rare.

bitontheslide 09-04-2019 11:34 AM

The only good news to come out of this is that Mike Ashley has now lost 130 million he had invested in the company .... every cloud ...

I don't mind malls. I prefer that to trekking all over town from store to store.

I worked at Debenhams for twelve months, the staff are really lovely but they’ve had an impending sense of doom for a while. It was always dead

Well considering 3 million people are employed in retail currently... They're going to need those homeless shelters more than ever :umm2:
