If It Is Such A Bad Word... (and related threads merged)

Yes it is a bad word... so why is it being used in today's music?... I think everyone has blown this all out of proportion. She said it in a joking way and she's obviously heard it from this music... so it isn't her fault at all. All this is, is Big Brother acting upon what happened in CBB5 well BB it's a little too late to be acting upon what happened with Jade and Shilpa. I think Emily should be put back in as I feel she was robbed out of a chance of winning the show. And everyone wonders why people are saying the show should be cancelled... well I personally think it should no longer be shown on Channel 4 because they obviously don't know how to deal with these issues properly as Emily should have only recieved a warning. And why is Charley so BRAIN DEAD!... If anyone watched BBBM you would have seen Charley going on about how she would be in the paper. She needs to be evicted and quick! I think this will be talked about for ages but I do hope people don't look back on this series like they did with CBB5.

ttw 07-06-2007 10:40 PM

yes it's true, there is an issue about it being used in music, but at the same time, what white rapper uses it?? by being used in black music it does run the risk of non black people using the word and feeling it is okay to use the word... BUT IT IS NOT. regardless whether it is used by rappers!

so that is no excuse.

Camomile 07-06-2007 10:41 PM

It's a global question.It's philosophy,everyone has his own nowadays.

Shaun 07-06-2007 10:41 PM

For black people to have acceptable words, that are unacceptable for white people to use, is discriminatory in itself.

Gap 07-06-2007 10:43 PM

I don't think it has been blown out of proportion. Like I've said a million times tonight, had they not acted the show would be in deep ****. Anyway I'm sick of discussing this so goodnight :)

Psylocke 07-06-2007 10:43 PM

Just because it is being used by rap artists to be cool, does not make it right.

Jimboy69 07-06-2007 10:43 PM

What an utter joke!!!!!!!!!!

Right. The 'N' word is an awful word. And yes used in the context of race hate it is is a horrendous word. But I saw the footage, It was not meant in that way. This whole thing has become an utter embarressment. Everyone jumping on Emily's back just because they can. And I'm sorry but Charley really milked the situation, and sold Emily, who was becoming her friend down the river.

Big_Brother_Nutter 07-06-2007 10:44 PM

Well then sorry it should be unacceptable for everyone then!

Big_Brother_Nutter 07-06-2007 10:44 PM

What a *******ed up world we live in:puzzled:

Are u serious??!

so u think if black ppl use it white ppl should be able to use it also! no way!

and it is not just words, the word ****** derived from slavery and the majority of black ppl have a deep understanding of where it came from and what it means that non-black ppl dont, and cant.

it has become acceptable for black ppl to use it among themselves, whether this is a correct thing or not, it is totally seperated from the issue of white ppl using it!!

Blink_Me 07-06-2007 10:46 PM

There was no need to say it. Why say it? And to a black girl nonetheless.

You're saying it wasn't her fault? Who was at fault for it? Charley? Nikki? Nope. It didn't come from their mouths, it came from her mouth. Because she's heard in music, doesn't mean she can go around saying as she pleases.

Dan_ 07-06-2007 10:46 PM

Just the use of that word is bad enough in my view, you cannot just use that term in a joking way because of the severe meaning of it.It was used out of pure ignorance and seemed to come out all too easily for my liking.

Charley has every right to feel upset, shocked and annoyed by it.

I agree. If we all want to back away from the days of slavery, why is it still used in society today?

I'm saying black people shouldn't use it, thank you very much.

No, that's not fair. If there's equality, then there's no "especially white people" - it's equally bad to be used by anyone. Full stop.

MummyJens01 07-06-2007 10:54 PM

I dont think the word should be used by anyone, whether it be a white person, black person or a rainbow couloured person!
The word is discriminitive! But..... the context it was said in wasn't meant to be a racist way!

I completely agree, 'white' guys roll around listening to 50 'pence' all the time, and think it's cool. But if they said it to an actual person, they'd not be so 'COOL'.

nodisharmony 07-06-2007 10:55 PM

It does get used in Rap music all of the time, I do agree.

But, Big Brother have a rule-book & regardless of rap music or any other excuse, they had no choice but to evict Emily.

The thought of Emily coming back into the BB house is an impossible one & I can see much trouble coming Emily's way, sooner than you think:sad:

I agree completely. Emily used it as if it was natural to her, when really an 'Indie' girl wouldn't be defined using the 'N' word.

Psylocke 07-06-2007 11:02 PM

Black people use it because it was turning a word white people used against them into somthing of theres, after years of torture.

All you people talking about black and whites both being able to use this word.DO yourself a favour and actually do some history on wikipedia etc on this word.

The word should NEVER be uttered from a white man or womans lips again.

I hate to stamp on your parade, Wikipedia isn't a reliable source even though your point is correct and I agree with it.

Knowing Wiki they probably see a 'N' as a white boy?
