Worst injury you've had?

LaLaLand 06-05-2019 08:38 PM

About 2 years ago when we had Storm Doris wreaking havoc I slipped over on some mud walking home at night from the pub and broke my foot, almost broke my ankle and damaged all of the tendons/ligaments/muscles in my ankle.

4 months in a huge boot and swelling/bruising like I've never seen, from the bottom of my toes to half way up my calf was all colours - black/blue/green/purple/yellow. I even had "fracture blisters" at the beginning which I'd never heard of, basically my foot was over-swelling and creating huge blood blisters in my skin! :skull:

My ex tried to glass me but I put my hand in front of my face and my index finger was gouged very badly. Had to have skin grafts and plastic surgery to repair it. Still bear the scars to my hand.

OH also when I was a toddler I tripped and smashed my head on a big plug socket on the wall, hit it so hard that the socket broke off the wall and cracked my head right open above my eyebrow. It's shrunk over time but apparently was "huge" when I did it, blood everywhere, stitches etc. Got a small, faint veiny-like scar above my eyebrow now.

I hyperextended my shoulder wrestling on a trampoline

Shattered my elbow in July 2014 when I tripped on an uneven grid, was in surgery for six hours and have a metal plate in my elbow now. Got a massive scar from where they operated nearly five years later :(

Although I am quite lucky, they thought I might never gain movement in my left arm again and it’s perfectly fine. The surgeon said he’d never seen a break like it for someone of my age at the time.

Does paraplegia count?

Honestly.... venomous spider bite that literally had my thigh burning, leg hurting/aching from the slightest pressure, and basically bed ridden for a few days :joker:

But idk if that's even an "injury" so aside from that I guess I would say:

A concussion and big swollen bump on my head when I ran into a clear glass door while it was raining outside. (when I was like 7-8 years old) (idiot) I literally fell backwards and had no idea what happened, nearly KO'd/dizzy, had to go to the hospital

Other than that I've just had a bad ankle sprain (worse than the typical sprains I always had, needed crutches to get around for a day or two, but obv ankle sprain = not serious at all). Haven't had to deal with anything too bad and hopefully it stays that way :fc:

I fell over with a bottle of pop when I was around 9/10, I fell on the smashed glass and it ripped my skin on my forearm, it bled profusely and I had to have loads of stitches, it scarred quite badly, then when I was an adult I boiled some water to take upstairs for a wash, tripped and my hands and some of my arms were very badly scalded,as my hands went into the pan, had massive water blisters, but it healed ok and worst was I was at a party and was flicking a towel at a friend and I slipped on the marble floor ,did the splits ,I mean proper slits and tore my hamstring,it was so painful,my leg has not been right since, other than those nothing too bad.

I haven't really had many bad injuries, worst one I can think of was when I was 19 and working in a bar, the neck of a bottle of wine snapped off in my hand when I was opening it, I severed nerves at the base of my thumb so if I ever hit that spot off anything it sends a red hot pain right up my thumb and I've had pins and needles in my thumb since that day

Livia 07-05-2019 09:19 AM

Probably the worst was when I was hit by a drunk on my way to work and had to be cut out of my car..., broken femur... bang on the head... it was horrible. I have broken lots of bones over the years though.

Broke my arm in 2 places when I was like 3.

Also fell off an old truck and sliced my side really badly on a bent out piece of metal which has left a scar on my right side to this day!

I tore my foreskin in another incident with the girl.next door...I was a little drunk and thought we were having sex but I was actually having sex with the zip of a cushion on my mum's sofa.

Most painful afterwards was a scorpion sting.
Had to have the whole ball off my foot lanced.
Bruised and battered legs due to falls, but up to now only thing broke is my nose, from a good thump.
Plenty of badly sprained and twisted ankles over the years.

I slipped in the snow and broke my upper arm just below the shoulder when 1 was 11, I had to have my arm strapped across my body for 6 weeks as they couldn't put a cast where the break was, I really wanted a cast as well

I was always breaking stuff as a kid, I had a fine collection of casts, all signed by various people, but my favourite one was a lower arm cast from when I was about 7, signed by Mr Whippy the ice cream man.

strong Oirish bones we have

AnnieK 07-05-2019 03:02 PM

I've broken multiple fingers playing netball and rounders when I was younger and had a really bad finger break a few year ago.

When I was 7 I got a really bad rope burn across my neck when I ran full pelt into a rope that had been strung across some fencing (school called my mum in as they thought someone had tried to strangle me).

I would have killed for an arm cast when I was a kid, I used to hope every time I fell that I had broke my wrist....never did, I always seemed to bounce
