The Star Trek Universe thread

https://scifanatic-wpengine.netdna-s...se-777x437.jpg

So, instead of creating a thread for each new announcement in the Star Trek franchise, I will use this one, though I will still post seasonal threads for each of the shows when they air (to keep spoilers contained)

So far in the Star Trek Multiverse we have

Star Trek The Original Series
Star Trek The Animated Series
Star Trek The Next Generation
Star Trek Deep Space Nine
Star Trek Voyager
Star Trek Enterprise
and Star Trek Discovery
Then there is the TOS/TNG films

and Star Trek/Into Darkness/Beyond, which are set in an alternate timeline

Upcoming we have

Star Trek Untitled Picard Show
Star Trek Lower Decks
Star Trek Section 31
and an Untitled children's CG animated show

Also, CBS launched the 'Star Trek Global Franchise Group' yesterday who will be overseeing future non-TV show related projects, such as video games, websites and books

Seems like a Pike series has been all but confirmed, Alex Kurtzman asked the audience if they wanted a Pike show and they all cheered.

CBS & Viacom announced they're to merge today, which means, the film rights and the TV show rights will be back together again! They'd been seperate since the mid-2000s, which is why we had the Kelvinverse films

Ramsay 14-08-2019 05:03 PM

Great news!!

Scarlett. 14-08-2019 06:43 PM

I'd love if they did a DS9 film

Short Treks! They have had to be pitch shifted, and mirrored to avoid CBS taking them down, its otherwise impossible to watch them outside North America otherwise

The Trouble With Edward

tbh the Shorts are better than ST:D

Star Trek used to be a set of ideals, but now Star Trek is names you know, and places you know, where people can shoot at each other in the places.

Scarlett. 16-10-2019 01:34 PM

To be fair on Disco, it's meant to be that kind of show, the plan for each show in the new Star Trek era is each one will be a different style, rather than repeating like what happened with TNG/VOY/ENT (DS9 was the best because it was different to the rest). I hope that if they do the Pike show, it will be kinda like TOS.

Oliver_W 16-10-2019 02:17 PM

I get that things don't need to be the same over and over, and something too akin to TOS might not fly (heehee) with today's audience, but I feel like ST:D is so far removed it could may as well be its own thing, y'know?

Scarlett. 16-10-2019 02:22 PM

I think Disco will work better in its new setting from season 3 onward, a lot of the weird stuff in S1 & 2 were hangovers from when Bryan Fuller was in charge (New Klingons, that were basically reverted in S2, Burnham being Spock's adopted sister ect.) Season 2 pretty much tied a neat little bow on all that weirdness and now its going off in it's own direction and not having to butt up against established canon. IMO it should have always been a sequel series.

Noah Hawley to Write and Direct Next ‘Star Trek’ Movie
By Justin Kroll
@krolljvar

“Fargo” and “Legion” creator Noah Hawley has been tapped to write and direct the next installment of the “Star Trek” franchise, sources tell Variety.

Though plot details are being kept under wraps, sources tell Variety the next “Star Trek” is expected to see Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban and Zoe Saldana returning to man the U.S.S. Enterprise.

J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot will return to produce, with Hawley also producing through his 26 Keys production banner.

This will serve as the fourth movie in the cinematic series, and is separate from another “Star Trek” pic that Paramount is developing with Quentin Tarantino producing and Mark L. Smith writing.

The studio had tried to launch the fourth film last year, with S.J. Clarkson directing and Chris Hemsworth joining the cast to reprise the role of Pine’s father. That film was shelved when deals could not be reached, but the studio is hoping that this attempt will be more successful, with a different plot than the one Hemsworth turned down.

Hawley made his feature film directorial debut on “Lucy in the Sky,” which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival and stars Natalie Portman and Jon Hamm. He is repped by CAA.

Deadline Hollywood first reported the news.

I don't know if I am that interested in seeing more of the Kelvin / Abrams-verse. I'd prefer new characters.
