Danny Baker posts racist tweet about the royal baby

Quote:

Danny Baker has been SLAMMED by social media users after a 'racist' tweet appeared on his account today.

The comedian seemingly shared an image of a monkey in a suit, captioning it: "Royal baby leaves hospital."

The tweet has been slammed by angry social media users, branding it "racist" due to Meghan Markle's heritage.

The tweet has subsequently been deleted.

Baker replied to one critic, trying to justify the tweet appearing on his account today (Wednesday, May 8).

I like the guy and can see how it could conceivably be an honest mistake but his refusal to properly apologise for it is just...mad. I'd be mortified. He's just shrugging it off.

i don't believe that people make "mistakes" like that on social media any more. They are wise to any picture contents and connotations they may have.

SOMETIMES I can concede that there's a remote possibility of a stupid mistake being made but I don't know how he could possibly justify this one as a mistake . What on earth would the context be.

Cherie 08-05-2019 07:24 PM

No way is that a mistake, his awful Saturday morning show on BBC 5 live must be flagging

Cal. 08-05-2019 07:31 PM

That’s horrific.

Cal. 08-05-2019 07:31 PM

Not even funny humour? It’s horrid.

...especially as it’s their jobs and their earnings that they would be jeopardising...anything posted would be really well thought out and intentional, surely...

Can't even see how it would be a mistake tbh. It's not like singing along the N-word in a rap song or something, but posting a picture of a monkey clearly has racist connotations.

Just another case of someone being a dickhead and thinking it's funny.

Tony Montana 08-05-2019 08:22 PM

I figure if the intention was "look at these posh fools" then having a monkey would be some kind of comment on how silly the whole obsession with royalty is, but yeah I can't really imagine how the obvious bad connotation would escape your mind

UserSince2005 08-05-2019 08:49 PM

Doesn’t look like an Archie.

A joke ain’t funny if there are lots of loose ends

LeatherTrumpet 08-05-2019 09:30 PM

What was the point, obviously it's not racism but I don't get why he would open himself up to the obvious criticism?

Using a monkey as a representation of a child with black genes isn’t racist?
