RIP. Was always on telly when I was a kid, soft as a brush.
Remember when he threw maggots over his audience on his "An Audience with..."? :omgno: |
Freddie. RIP. He was found dead at his Spanish home by a carer. Aged 76.

He was investigated but no charges brought as far as I know, his humour wouldn't be tolerated today but that goes for a lot of the older comedians, He was funny, I remember Faith Brown fuming at him for throwing maggots into the audience, his Elvis impersonations were good too.but in his later life he became a recluse.
|
He was investigated by yew tree officers that he allegedly put his hand up a girls skirt, he was never charged but spent over 750 grand deffending himself against the alligation.
He was forced to sell his 700 grand home to pay court costs, he moved abroad to a one bed apartment he had a woman carer. A talented man that was from a time gone bye. |
Times have changed in the world, what was acceptable then in comedy is not now, but we still have murders, rapes and child abuse, it’s good to keep things in perspective.

Just been listening to a bio of his life, I didn't realise he was Mr Saturday night for a while on UK TV, he was also held on police bail for a year and a half with no charge...... he had to sell his house as he sued for libel and lost his case.
I think people would do well to remember what is tolerated humour wise now will not be tolerated in 20 years time, people will look back in horror at some of the reality and other shows that are now popular, I can imagine shows like IAC getting a lot of negativity for its content for example |

And some of the tasteless comments in this thread are unacceptable. He wasn't my taste, but loads of people liked him. And no, his humour wouldn't have any place in today's society. And conversely, some of the comedians of today would be pelted off the stage forty years ago... and they could take their virtue signalling with them. What I've learned over the last couple of days is, you bring up anyone's past, beat them repeatedly with spent convictions, list the crimes for which they've already paid.... but only if your opinions clash with theirs. |
