Opinions on Sam (BB6)

Decided to do another one of these (again apologies if this sort of thread is done before but I was bored). This time it’s Sam.

http://www.brantsteele.com/images/bi.../uk/06/sam.png

I never understood all the hate Sam got from the public at the time. She seemed like a nice girl and definitely one of the prettiest housemates. Although she wasn’t exactly a live wire compared to the others, she still had some memorable moments. (Her and Lesley were gold even though it got hard to watch at times).

Having said that, Sam didn’t exactly have the best game plan going into that house. By alienating herself by only talking to Maxwell, Saskia and Anthony, for them to then ditch her wasn’t the smartest move. It pretty much sealed her fate after week 2’s eviction.

Overall though I like Sam. As awful as her singing and lap dances are, I don’t think she was one of the worst housemates and I reckon she would’ve been better suited to BB8 housemates compared to BB6.

What does everyone else think?

Loved her

I found her random screaming quite irritating. Not a fan tbh

Loved her- one of the most underrated housemates of all time. An absolute scream.

I thought she was a pretty good housemate like most of the cast, but I can absolutely see why the public hated her. She did tend to randomly lash out at people for small things, people found her laughter at things in the first week fake, she did a few questionable things like chucking water at Derek for no real reason, and her off tune singing grated on everyone. I did still like her though, fit into the fame hungry but vulnerable archetype that's common on the show pretty well. Because she was so out of place in the cast, there was lots of funny awkward humour with her as well, like the cringey lapdance, the masturbation in a box where all the housemates present heckled her for it, her arguments tended to be pretty funny, etc

I always thought this was why Derek had the “jokes are not my suit” row with her. I thought maybe he held a little bit of a grudge and then the way she spoke
to him just made him snap.

I do agree with you on the fame hungry part. She let stuff like that slip quite a lot which was never gonna get her votes but seems to be the norm with these types of shows nowadays.

I take it she was in News of the World quite a lot?

I liked her but she was too nice for BB6

Like many others, I think Derek just saw her as an easy target who wouldn't dare argue back with him, it had nothing to do with him holding a grudge. Would he have snapped at Saskia or Makosi like that? I doubt it.

Liked ha but Lesley was funnier

Shaun 19-05-2019 01:33 PM

She was fine but so up her own ass and pretty much inconsequential to the series.

Good point actually. She was an easy target for most them in there. I definitely think BB8 would’ve been much better suited for her

He talked to Makosi like that quite a lot

When? Him and Makosi had a few rows, but I can't recall him snapping at her the way he did with Sam.

Yeah, she definitely would've fitted in in BB8 more than 6.

He only ever got really mad at her once though, and that was when he was in control as a dog owner and she was dressed as a dog. He was still clearly quote afraid of Makosi, Saskia and maybe Maxwell sometimes, and tended to walk on thin ice with them, even during arguments

"I wish to nominate Sam. She wears a smile like a MASK. And the only time I saw that smile... for a moment, REAL... was when you announced that we were all going to give our names for nomination. She. Is.... An assassin. I prefer people who find their courage in the HEAT of battle, not at the post-mortem..."

"My first nomination is Sam. I do actually think she has a personality DEFECT. She lacks good communication skills, in fact she spends most of the time not saying anything."

In a house like that I think Sam added a sense of calm into it.

Definitely love her and agree with the fact that she's underrated. She just didn't suit BB6.

Plus I was at her side throughout the whole drama between her and Lesley...

She didn’t throw it for no real reason at all
If you watch the episode then you’ll see everyone daring her to do it and pressuring her to do it. Why should Sam get all the blame for it when even Lesley was one of the ones who was telling her to do it alongside others

Just because people pressured her to do it doesn't give her the right to attack someone imo. I know why she did it, but I also don't think that was a valid reason to do so, and shows she was the type of person who gave in too easily to peer pressure.

Dogeatdog 23-06-2019 01:11 PM

Sam did come across as someone who was a bit of a pushover. You could tell she was someone that couldn’t really deal with confrontation well and just gave into things to easily.

I always loved Derek after the water was thrown at him when he says “Big Brother could you possibly put the blinds down in the bedroom so I don’t have to look at these ghastly ugly people”.

Ok And what? she didn’t deserve all that hatred she got from Derek for throwing water on him as a joke especially since her purpose wasn’t to go and harm him and it was just light hearted fun
