Google deals Huawei major blow by cutting Android licence

This is not good.

[Google has dealt a major blow to
Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei
by blocking the firm from using
critical apps and services like
Gmail and YouTube on its range
of smartphones, according to reports.
Just like other major smartphone
makers including Samsung and LG,
Huawei relies on
the Google-developed Android operating system
to power its mobile devices.]

[But, amid a US crackdown on
Chinese technology companies
due to ongoing security concerns,
Reuters and The Verge report that
Google has suspended business
with Huawei and in doing so
hugely undermined its lineup of handsets,
which are among the most
critically-acclaimed and best-selling
on the market.]

As you go on though, you won't get any updates... and soon those apps won't work for you... rt now it's ok... but give it time

The ironic thing is that Huawei were being accused of being influenced by the state .... and here we have google being influenced ..... by the state

Just get it rooted to stock Android and (I would bet) you'll be able to sideload YouTube no problem.

As for gmail... You can use third part apps for Gmail accounts . Half of them are better than default Gmail.

The really sad this about this is that it totally defeats the purpose of Android... It was supposed to be the "open to all" alternative it iOS. Not any more apparently.

n the longer term, though, this might give smartphone vendors in general a reason to seriously consider the need for a viable alternative to Google's operating system, particularly at a time that the search giant is trying to push its own Pixel brand at their expense.

Existing Huawei smartphone users will be able to update apps and push through security fixes, as well as update Google Play services.

But when Google launches the next version of Android later this year, it may not be available on Huawei devices.

Future Huawei devices may no longer have apps such as YouTube and Maps.

Huawei can still use the version of the Android operating system available through an open source licence.

Basically any current device will be fine (you DON'T need to update to the newest version of Android and most phones will run the version they shipped with for their lifespan) but anything made after this year has a big question mark over it.
