Possibility of adding a Like Button?

Any chance this is at all possible? I believe a lot of members would want this.

Thoughts?

I will add a poll.

Matthew. 05-06-2019 10:30 AM

Yes please

Kate! 05-06-2019 10:35 AM

If you vote please post your reason(s)

Crimson Dynamo 05-06-2019 10:37 AM

it would add to the division in the forum and would be routinely abused on a daily basis

NO

Epic. 05-06-2019 10:57 AM

In answer to the poll, yes.

In answer to how the thread is formatted, no

caprimint 05-06-2019 11:00 AM

No, it'll just create even more **** because all the groups of friends will like each other's posts

I voted yes but then read this and now want to vote no

Kazanne 05-06-2019 11:03 AM

Why do people feel the need to be the most popular all the time ? imo it will make things worse as people will band together and make others feel bad.

- This is one of the only forums still in the dark ages in relation to a like button.
- A lot of posts I couldn't have worded better and would like to show my agreement.
- It's nice to spread some positivity

Idrc either way but I think if it was added it should be limited to so many likes per day/hour so it actually feels meaningful liking something and avoids people spamming it.

T* 05-06-2019 11:19 AM

coming back to here it really feels empty without one, mainly because i really cba replying to posts I agree with and just repeating myself so a lot of the time I just leave it :shame: I think - and I don’t mean any shade by this - if we could disable it in places of the forum where arguments are most likely and probably wouldn’t be appropriate, then it would be better. Makes it more of a friendlier feature if it was in all the TV sections and the chat sections .

I personally don’t get the point of one, there’s no difference between that and quoting that you agree, if anything I think it would probably bring discussions to an end quicker if people aren’t going to add anything onto people’s comments

Wizard. 05-06-2019 11:25 AM

Never gonna happen

Yeah this as well, it'd be an alternative to actually posting something

Elliot 05-06-2019 01:00 PM

A like button would be fun. Usually when there’s a really good post the thread gets littered with replies to said post with the clap emoji or laugh emoji or w/e. It’d clean things up a lot more.

I'm not tat bothered about it but I feel like it wouldn't make much of a difference, I mean people now would just quote the post with "this." or "[2]" which is essentially a like.

Yeah, this is a forum, people are supposed to talk, social media already has like buttons, why the need for everything to be made the same? We're supposed to be encouraging discussion not stunting it

Twosugars 05-06-2019 01:11 PM

Why not try and see?

Don't see it as stunting discussion. Another forum I read has it and discussion flows ok. If somebody has to add something they will.

There did used to be a Karma button iirc but it was taken out because it was causing problems (I think but maybe another mod/admin could confirm that?)

yeah but what is a "this" really adding to the conversation? if the conversation is dead its gonna end quickly regardless. A like button if anything would declutter threads because the first page wont made p entirely of people just agreeing with someones paragraph.

That's a big strike against the idea for me, it's supposed to be a discussion forum.

That said, it would beat the posts which comprise solely of "this" or just a full stop (actually, I'd support a motion for the latter to be automatically deleted :idc:)
