A new law will force pedophiles whose victims were under 13 to pay for their own castration before they’re released from jail. The HB 379 bill was signed by Alabama Governor Kay Ivey Wednesday after being introduced by Republican State Representative Steve Hurst. It will see child molesters undergo chemical castration, with drugs used to suppress their sexual urges. Anyone who refuses to do so will be considered in violation of their parole and kept in prison. Explaining the reasoning behind the controversial proposal, Hurst told CBS42: ‘They have marked this child for life and the punishment should fit the crime. ‘I had people call me in the past when I introduced it and said don’t you think this is inhumane? The proposed bill has been introduced by Republican State Representative Steve Hurst. ‘I asked them what’s more inhumane than when you take a little infant child, and you sexually molest that infant child when the child cannot defend themselves or get away, and they have to go through all the things they have to go through. ‘If you want to talk about inhumane – that’s inhumane.' Hurst has also claimed that his bill could deter pedophiles from targeting children, and reduce the number of child sex offenses taking place. But Alabama attorney Raymond Johnson is among those who oppose it. He thinks existing punishments are sufficient. Johnson explained: ‘There going to challenge it under the 8th Amendment Constitution. ‘There going to claim that it is cruel and unusual punishment for someone who has served there time and for the rest of there life have to be castrate.’

They can claim its unusual and cruel punishment till they are blue in the face as far as I'm concerned. What about the cruelty of what they do to children who themselves have a life sentence of what has been done to them. Bloody do gooders.

Are there any figures to back up that this protects children, a murderer is a murderer with or without usable balls

They prey on children and they will never stop. So I don't think this is the worst idea. Why would people be worrying about the welfare of paedophiles? I've always said convicted paedos should be left with just a hole to piss through.

I get why they'd do it but wouldn't it just cover up evidence if they offended again ?

I don't know how I feel about this actually. A sex offender will offend regardless, and chemical castration (which I assume this will always be rather than actually cutting off balls dog style) doesn;t make quite as much difference as you would think as its not generally just 'male hormones' that cause atacks and its kind of dangerous thinking to think that way.

I tend to lean much closer to the 'lock them up forever' or hell, it being America even the death penalty for anyone who touches a child sexually. As, there is no cure. They are very likely to reoffend, and basically, letting them out again and again is just experimenting on kids tbh. Not very liberal of me I know, but this is one topic I tend to go for the jugular with. The 'but rehabilitiation' crowd can suck my non existant balls, as the only way 'rehab' could potentially show that these pedos are now 'safe', is to let potentially dangerous people back out into the world with innocent kids surrounding them and basically, hope for the best. Nah.

I want to be fair, so I'd be happy to offer them the same kind of opt-out they give the kids they abuse.

There was a female teacher that slept with a 14 year old boy & kept showing her students images of her husband and herself in sexual acts .

She's already committed paedophila , shown indecent images to minors , and abused her position as a teacher . what should happen to her ?? . I think all she got was 2 years in prison ,she's on the sex offenders register but that's it.

It's alright saying sex offenders should be "castrated" , but if they're let out of prison and still cause harm to children or even commit murder then what ?? .

Don't know how I feel about this. Should we also be cutting the arms and legs off murderers too?

Doesnt it go against Human Rights? I know people will say they dont deserve Human Rights which is true but it doesnt work that way

Also what about people who are on there for because they wasnt told someone real age or something like that?

Given its for people whos vicims were under 13, I don't think there will be any of these, but either way someone lying about their age is obviously very different to someone abusing people they know are underage of course. I really doubt many 13 year olds pass as 18 (18 is sex consent age in USA I think, not 16?)
