What did you do as a child that could be considered dangerous today.

Mother used to chuck us out and we would go to park on our own or walk a few miles to the seaside for the day.
Eldest was only 7 then 6 then a four year old.

Used to walk through the bush in Africa on my own, and horse ride through it for miles on my own as a young teen.
Loads of stuff really, different worlds I suppose.

I remember breaking open mercury thermometers and rolling the mercury around on a metal tray :umm2:. My dad also got me a proper shop-bought slingshot that was for killing vermin that I just played with like it was a toy. Nearly broke a friend's ankle with a rock and if it had ever hit someone in the head, they would probably have died. WTF were they thinking.

At primary school the toilet wouldn’t flush so I kept pressing the button and then suddenly it happened but it was all the flushes consecutively and I didn’t think anything of it so I went back to class and an hour later we had to go home because the boys bathroom and the reception was flooded but they never even found out it was me so I won I guess

bots 29-07-2019 09:05 AM

i used to play on the railway line

AnnieK 29-07-2019 09:12 AM

God everything....
We used to play out miles from home and my mum had no idea where we were or when we'd be back....

Bare foot backies on bikes...one girl got her toe caught in the spokes, that was a mess

Tyre swings over a raging river

Camping out in a derelict house...

Too many to say but great memories

Was it just my primary school that shown all the kids a video of a boy falling off his bike, hitting his head, and getting brain damage, ending with him unresponsive and receiving physiotherapy, or am I the only one left traumatised

Beso 29-07-2019 11:58 AM

6 off us used to get dropped of miles from home and hitch home in groups of 2 home..racing eachother...fun times..loads if pylon climbing with my gang...the forsks...

Diving off bridges in the summer walking across the frozen river in the winter...plundering apples just for the chase really..

Beso 29-07-2019 12:01 PM

I also remember I used to come out a street that had a blind junction on my bike and just fly straight across ony bike without stopping or looking...I did that everytime I crossed that road...fair enough it was early in the morning during my paper round..

Use to love playing Kerby outfit seems to be extinct now?

We use to go to this haunted place in a feild where a witch was meant to have been held and use to try get in the barricades.

We also loved chasing cows around the feild

LaLaLand 29-07-2019 12:18 PM

Probably everything tbh.

We used to literally go out about 11am and be gone until about 6 (come home for tea) then back out until 9ish in the Summer (or more precisely, “when the streetlights turn on!”) No phones, hanging around in woods and by the river. Cycling around everywhere just living life. Never once felt unsafe. Great times!

Honestly it was unusual for me -not- to have a few barbed wire scratches at any given time as a kid. I remember once having a bad one on my leg then being in a panic that I might get septicemia because some cow poop got on the cut.

LaLaLand 29-07-2019 12:32 PM

We used to try and “jump the canal” in the Summer, from one side to the other.

Thing is, our canal runs across the top of the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct (Google it it’s famous) and so the drop not too far from where you’d “land” was a few hundred feet sheer. So if you stumbled... “Oops” :joker:. Thankfully, no casualties!

James 29-07-2019 12:52 PM

Climb trees.

I used to jump off the stairs, seeing how high I could jump from.

We had the best jigger in the street... Made out of bits of wood and pram wheels, there is a hill at the top of the road where we grew up and we'd come screaming down it.... everyone fell off regularly and lots of road rash ensued but it was super double fun.

Oh me and one of my friends used to take the mattress of her bed when her mother wasn't home and use it as a sled down the stairs

I've heard them called go karts, I suppose it's a regional thing what they're called... bet they were all just as lethal.
